First Album You Bought With Your Own Money (3 Viewers)

All.Of.Them though not necessarily all on each.

For many, I have owned the LP, then cassette. But many cassettes I recorded from LP. I switched out my 8-Track for a Craig Power Play system (69 Buick Skylark FTW and mounted next to the CB) but I owned several 8-Tracks of LPs I owned. Eventually, I owned some cassettes for which I had never owned the LPs. Then, somewhere around 1993, I was gifted with a CD player and some CDs of LPs that I had owned as 8-Tracks and cassettes because those were known to be, at the time, as the music I listened to mostly.

Then, I am not sure when but I suspect around 2000~ish, I downloaded some "digital content" whose ownership was questionable because a group of us were sharing music we owned. Along with that came some paid albums that I wanted the convenience of listening to at work.

I suspect that many of us, who are in my age group, did things in a similar way with no real straight lines from one to the next. I know I owned some 8-ts before I owned the same LPs. I know I owned some 8-ts that I skipped over LPs and went to cassette.

Many chickens. Many eggs.

@guidomerkinsrules You didn't yell at Bleu for alleged piracy like you yelled at me for it. I demand equality!

Speaking of media types, I remember when quadraphonic 8-track tapes first came out. My uncle quickly ran out and bought the system which was introduced by Philco. The console had a joystick balance control similar to what is shown in the photo. (this image is a later GE version) It was so cool to isolate instruments via that controller.

I remember listening to the Doobie Brothers album 'The Captain and Me' which was recorded in Quad8. I can still remember the fun of kicking the joystick over to hear the isolated guitar in 'China Grove' like it was yesterday!

No one likes a narc , dude

Mine was the Beastie Boys 'Licensed to Ill' on cassette back in the mid-80's when I was a kid...

Saw Frank Marino and Robin Trower at the Capital Centre while tripping on acid. That was the show where I saw the clef notes tumbling out of the speakers like a waterfall, hitting the floor and spreading out like water. Great concert! I don't remember the drive back to UMD :hihi:
TIL that Robin Trower was originally in Procul Harum.

Since I can't search for Kix, have we discussed Kix?

O.k., if we are gonna be honest here.. . um

I think my first tape was some new wave band. I found a walkman on the sidewalk and I don't remember what the band's name on the tape. About 9 years old.

Someone gave me an E-Z-E tape, which I listened to. About 10 at this point.
Than someone gave me an Expose Cd. Being 13 at the time..

I honestly think my first CD, that I bought was Mili Vanilli. Turns out it was a total fraud. Still had a couple of good songs on it, if you ask me.

From there I think purchased Vanilla Ice and MCHammer.

Than I bought a local hardcore band Cd. Outspoken

My first punk rock tape was Social Distortion, than bought a Pennywise Cd.

My friend's brother gave me a mix tape with Bad Religion, Minor Threat, and Angry Samoans on it, because he found out I listened to punk rock. Might of got a copy of a Sublime tape here also.

My friend tried to get me into Beastie Boys, but I wasn't quite ready for it at that time. When they reverted back to hard rock with Ill Communication, that's when it clicked.

Might of bought a Nirvana, Metallica and Red Hot Chilli Peppers Tapes from there. Bought a Pantera Cd some around here also. O.k., I think I covered it. lol
