Article Florio calls out NFL for not fixing the problem that Saints fans know all-too-well (1 Viewer)

Here's the root of the problem, in my opinion.

The average NFL Coach works about 100 hours a week.

The average NFL Player works about 70 hours a week.
(That includes working out, watching film, etc)

The average NFL Ref works about 6 hours a week.

The NFL needs full time year round refs studying the game, developing faster replay tech, systems, and personnel.

Why do they have an on field ref looking at a 7 inch monitor instead of a ref in the booth looking at a 90 inch 8K TV for every replay? Makes no sense.

With the NFL making billions in profit every year and 1000 frames a second 8K ultra slo-mo cameras available there should never be a missed call.

But instead of using the tech and doing that it seems like the NFL wants to keep it archaic so they don't hurt the refs feelings by saying "You got it wrong." but it's fine to screw over an entire franchise and millions of fans.
I totally agree, but the NFL doesn't want to deal with another union. They'll do everything in their power to
prevent the formation of an officials union.

Same. I havent watched a Super Bowl since. I cant even name all the players on the Saints. No longer recognize 75% of the player’s being drafted. Closed out all my sports gambling accounts. Havent played fantasy since. Haven’t been back to a game, cancelled Sunday Ticket. Miss sbout a third of Saints games instead of watching each one multiple times. Honestly, its kind of refreshing. My mood no longer depends on the outcome of a bunch of millionaires playing a game.

Maybe it would have been different if it wasnt for the bounty gate stuff but the 1-2 combo and Saints ownership accepting the outcome to not rock the boat was enough for me to become a casual observer.
It truly is as if you took the feeling straight out of my head. I did the same with fantasy football, football focus, etc.

People are clowning on your post but you are not wrong. We live in an age that is driven by algorithms that feed on attention. It doesn’t matter if it is positive attention or negative attention. It is better for the NFL if people are talking about the no call on Monday than a great game that was played in college on Saturday. It is a great strategy for short term success.

Problem is when you see some of the most loyal fans becoming disenfranchised when it impacts them directly it becomes a long term time bomb. That play helped the NFL but it hurt the Saints.
It was poor word usage. The majority of fans (excluding Rams/Falcons fans) hated the no call. It wasn’t entertaining, it was a sad state for the NFL that day in particular. Many others sympathized with us and never want to endure that feeling.
Controversial is definitely the correct word bc people are intrigued by controversy. Wrestling is entertainment bc fans know that it’s fake, but treat it as a high action soap opera of sorts. Wrestlers know it’s fake. These football players say that the NFL is not scripted, so we accept it as “real”, but many of us can see what is actually going on. The NFL still hides behind the shield of “integrity”. They believe wholeheartedly in their “rules of competition”, but their actions are different. If they would come out and admit to swaying outcomes, then we could all just consume it as “entertainment”.

Years later and I don't really care anymore and just see it as a human error thing, we were just on wrong side of it
Nah, one official was directly on top of the play and missed the call. It was too obvious to miss. Like a military sniper missing a 1ft target at 100 feet.

For every action, there is a reaction. Sports as a whole is “entertainment”.
The action of what happened was controversial. Definitions would back this up. The No Call was/still is controversial. Hence why blown calls are viewed as controversial and not entertainment

I was changed forever after witnessing that silent sin. A part of my football passion died that night and I felt like I was in mourning for quite a while afterwards. I didn’t keep up with sports for almost two years. I’m just now back to this level of damaged.

The days following, I knew in my heart it was over. Saints football forever changed

If Bountygate didn't kill my love for the NFL, this no call did. I didn't even watch that boring piece of work super bowl.

the worst part was knowing that it was intentional - and then seeing Brees getting hit in the face by a Rams defender when throwing a pick. I knew it was LA's game by league edict.

The worst part is the Rams went on to do didley poo in the Superbowl. We most likely would have won. Goff led an offense that put up 3 points. I think Goff is the reason I can't get into the Lions like so many saint's fans seem to be doing.
