Article Florio calls out NFL for not fixing the problem that Saints fans know all-too-well (3 Viewers)

That day finally ended any remnants of respect I had for the NFL. They don't care about their product or reputation because they have no competition. They can just buy out any league that has the tiniest bit of success. They're the Amazon/MS of the sports world.

And they're ruining the game. I hate the NFL.

The NFL"s alliance with all the betting company's is complicit in much of this. Too much gambling money relies on who wins the game, and the refs are either in on it or grossly incompetent. Either way I don't trust the results.
I think that they are in on it. They make decent money and travel

Same. I havent watched a Super Bowl since. I cant even name all the players on the Saints. No longer recognize 75% of the player’s being drafted. Closed out all my sports gambling accounts. Havent played fantasy since. Haven’t been back to a game, cancelled Sunday Ticket. Miss sbout a third of Saints games instead of watching each one multiple times. Honestly, its kind of refreshing. My mood no longer depends on the outcome of a bunch of millionaires playing a game.

Maybe it would have been different if it wasnt for the bounty gate stuff but the 1-2 combo and Saints ownership accepting the outcome to not rock the boat was enough for me to become a casual observer.
You put into words exactly what I felt and did as well. Shame on you NFL.

There were several very bad calls during the playoffs so far. Florio is right. Reform is needed. Replays in the booth would help. Anyway, fix the system not the games. Fix the refs, not the game!

The no call was entertaining. So much so that we're still talking about it years later...because of the passion it generated.

That's funny because it had the opposite effect on me, I'm no longer nearly as passionate about the Saints or the NFL.....It's just entertainment, the game is severely lacking in integrity, just the way the NFL owners want it.....make that money.....

I mean, I remember feeling like it was rigged. My favorite thing to say at the time was "you don't make the call unless you aren't supposed to make the call"

Years later and I don't really care anymore and just see it as a human error thing, we were just on wrong side of it

People are clowning on your post but you are not wrong. We live in an age that is driven by algorithms that feed on attention. It doesn’t matter if it is positive attention or negative attention. It is better for the NFL if people are talking about the no call on Monday than a great game that was played in college on Saturday. It is a great strategy for short term success.

Problem is when you see some of the most loyal fans becoming disenfranchised when it impacts them directly it becomes a long term time bomb. That play helped the NFL but it hurt the Saints.

Here's the root of the problem, in my opinion.

The average NFL Coach works about 100 hours a week.

The average NFL Player works about 70 hours a week.
(That includes working out, watching film, etc)

The average NFL Ref works about 6 hours a week.

The NFL needs full time year round refs studying the game, developing faster replay tech, systems, and personnel.

Why do they have an on field ref looking at a 7 inch monitor instead of a ref in the booth looking at a 90 inch 8K TV for every replay? Makes no sense.

With the NFL making billions in profit every year and 1000 frames a second 8K ultra slo-mo cameras available there should never be a missed call.

But instead of using the tech and doing that it seems like the NFL wants to keep it archaic so they don't hurt the refs feelings by saying "You got it wrong." but it's fine to screw over an entire franchise and millions of fans.

It all adds up to me not watching any NFL games other than Saints since then: attempt to hijack "WhoDat" once the Saints emerged as a contender, going after local small businesses (Fleurty Girl & Defend NO), the stretch to make locker room incentives into a bounty assassination scandal, the egregious no call, etc. I'm not into revenge (unless it involves the falcons) but I'd truly love to see the NFL rocked by a gambling scandal.

Don’t forget the missed personal foul call on Drew’s OT interception.

Same as most of you, I went from Red Zone subscription and watch every game possible to putting the Saints game on my iPad while I did other stuff.

In my world, they should show EXACTLY what the ref is looking at by putting it up on the "Jumbotron" so EVERYONE can see what is being shown!!!
