And in keeping with the chain theme... I don't get Olive Garden, at all. Just yuck! There's got to be a good Italian place in every city that is better. Agree on Red Lobster in New Orleans. Why.... ever?

Houston's had solid food. And I think calling it a chain is a bit off, since it's not like there were Chili's, Applebee's, or even TGI Friday. I think they had 3 or 4 restaurants when the Vets location was open and I think they currently have a bit less than 10 locations.

They had 3 or 4 locations *in the NOLA area* back then.. i just googled, they have 44 locations nationally right now .. I’ve lived in CA, i have lived in TX- both had Houston’s restaurant locations.. it is what it is .

Olive Garden for a hot minute in the mid 1990s was not terrible, it was actually pretty good.. of course i was looking at it thru the lens of a broke college student, so i also thought Outback Steakhouse and those one-off Al Copeland concept restaurants (Straya ? Something something Factory ?) we’re kind of fancy back then .

Strange. When I googled them they showed 11 locations. Here is the link: https://www.houstons.com/locations/

And the only Houston's I knew of ever in the New Orleans area were on Veterans and on St. Charles. Where were the other locations?

Anyway, the point is that their food is fine whether they are a chain or not. And, if you live in New Orleans you can't eat like tourist every day or you will wind up being 400 Lbs.

I mean, that's the AI answer. That's how many restaurants Hillstone Restaurant Group owns, not how many Houston's there are.

Anyway, I was talking about when Houston's was on Veterans and on St. Charles. I don't even think that group owned them at the time and I didn't even know Houston's was back on St. Charles.

But what other Houston's were there in the New Orleans area other than Veterans and St. Charles?

to get this thread back on track, there have been a of 30th anniversary articles and most of them seem to be in either the hate it or used to love it category

More than a little of the hate seems not to be for the movie itself but the fact that it beat out Shawshank and Pulp Fiction for best picture at the Oscars, people are more sympathetic to Jenny than they were

And people calling it a pure propaganda piece. "If you're not too smart, don't question authority, always do what your told you'll have an amazing American Dream life"

Have never made it through the movie in its entirety.
Did have an encounter with Gary Sinise in a public restroom (nothing creepy or sinister) at SAMMC prior to The Lieutenant Dan Band playing for Memorial Day. He and his handlers were very cool.

Naw brah, the point is Houstons is/was a chain that is/was overrated and had no business being as popular in NOLA as it was .. now let’s get back to the topic of the thread, how FG robbed Pulp Fiction of Oscar glory .

I can understand chains like Friday's (I'm probably a little biased) and Houston's.

I'll never understand Red Lobster.

There's one that I don't think we've discussed. I'll never, ever, neverever understand Subway in New Orleans.
Pass me the Cheddar Bay biscuits.

I've said often that you will never see more delicious looking food than in a Red Lobster commercial

Say what you want about them but they hire the best in the business for their ads

Meh. It had solid food regardless of if it was a chain or not. Nothing spectacular and not close to worth the 2 hour wait times that the one on Veterans had, but solid food. If you call that overrating it, then okay. But, it's not like it was Appleby's or Chili's with one in every town with a marker on a map serving nothing but frozen food from Sysco. No idea what they are like anymore since I haven't been to one since around 1998 which is before what was Houston's on St. Charles became Gulf Stream. But, apparently Houston's is back, but maybe not in the same location?

Anyway, talk about overrated, Forrest Gump. It robbed Pulp Fiction of it's rightful Oscars.
