On the open market, Brees wouldn’t command the same bidding war as a Tom Brady, an Eli Manning or an Aaron Rodgers. Remarkably, even a physically scarred Peyton Manning was in demand by multiple teams this offseason because of his “stature” as a proven quarterback. The Broncos are paying Peyton $18 million this season. Brees has refused to sign the franchise tender of $16.371 million, demanding a long-term contract — which is his right.

To me, Brees is a product of the Saints’ remarkable offensive system, one designed by Payton to utilize his quick-strike strengths, his ability to roll out and his mind to remember every detail of the offense. Yes, he shattered Dan Marino’s single-season passing record with 5,476 yards in 2011, but I can’t honestly say that Brees is a better quarterback than Marino, whose physical skills and quick release put him on a different level. Brees could beat Marino in a foot race, but that’s about it.

Brees is great for the Saints, and vice versa. But I’m not convinced he would be great in every NFL offense.

Wow. I hope this was written as a simple attempt to get clicks. If the author really believes this smear campaign, he has got some serious brain damage.

he had some good points until he got to this line...

"Heck, Ben Roethlisberger, Rodgers and Eli Manning are better quarterbacks than Brees because they can play in any NFL system."

lol John "the idiot" Czarnecki. I'm beginning to wonder if they just let anyone that shows up that knows how to type write for these networks, it really is disgraceful. Goodness gracious.

And don’t forget that during his involvement with the union’s negotiations with the owners last year at this time, Brees fought hard — to no avail — to rid the league of the franchise tag on unrestricted free agents. That in itself proves he has more loyalty to his personal bottom line than to the fine citizens of New Orleans.

Ouch.

I guess it never occurred to this alleged writer that the systme just might have been built around Brees's strengths. He seems to have a problem with putting the cart before the horse, but that's not surprising considering his confusion about which end of the horse he is more similar to.

But but but.....

This is the very thing that each and ever national sportswriter was saying about Brees up until this contract dispute erupted...that Brees was a short system middle of the road QB who was turnover prone and unable to play outdoors

But, now that Brees can hurt the Saints, all of a sudden to the massses of reporters, he is suddenly the ebst QB in football. Once he signs, he will be garbage again to the press.

And the statement about his loyalty to the bottom line over the fans...that is 100% true of him and all athletes. And rightfully so...they should be more loyal to their own personal goals and wishes for their career and families over what the fans want.

Czarnecki, yeah, that makes sense. He is that accurate and athletic only because of the system he's in.

What an IDIOT! This reminds me why I never seek out an opinion on foxsports.com.

Since I've never heard of this guy until today, I'll give it all the rental space in my head that it deserves... DELETED!!!

What a crock of horse crap.

Would Tom Brady be as good if he wasnt in that system?

Would Aaron Rodgers be as good without Mike McCarthy? What Aaron Rodgers did get drafted by San Fran and had to go through the merry go round of coordinators? Would he be the QB that he is today?

And Eli? Serioiusly? He just now started to come into his own.

This guy is trying to paint Brees as a system QB, but here is a secret....

EVERY QUARTERBACK IS A SYSTEM QUARTERBACK.

Every quarterback, either good or bad, is munipulated by the coach and scheme they play in. In San Diego, they built the team around LT, a future HOF running back. Drew Brees was good in that system, didnt put up elite stats because thats not what the system called for.

He came to N.O., and SP built the system around Drew Brees, where he has blossomed as a QB and gotten better and better each year.

If a system can give a QB a 70+ % completion percentage, 30+ TD's every year, and a top 5 offense year in and year out why isnt every damn team in the league trying to carbon copy our exact system?

What a bunch of bull crap if this dude really thinks Brees wouldnt demand top dollar on the open market. Is he kidding? Drew is an elite QB, screw the stats watch the tape.

Everything you want in a QB Drew Brees has, good arm, outstanding ball location and accuracy, outstanding feet and pocket pressense, outstanding leadership and command of the offense, outstand pre snap diagnosis, I can go on.

What an idiotic article.
