Fox Sports' John Czarnecki: Brees overestimating his worth (2 Viewers)

What annoys me is that I don't believe we are getting straight answers on how "far apart" the team and Brees is/are/were. For a while it was "2 million dollars". I have a hard time believing 2 million dollars is holding this up.

Whatcha talking about Fool. Drew Brees is worth more that Eli, Brady and Payton together. Only a moronic idiot and FOOL would print BS like this. Lets just get Drew signed and let these dip sticks keep yapping as usual

GEAUX SAINT

SIGN DREW BREES EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO GIVE HIM THE TEAM

never knew height was so important. there are a couple useless stats in there as well. good waste of time right there.

I mean my brain hurts from reading that article. Dude has to reach for stats like fumbles. Seriously?

I thought this article was more on the line of Drew overestimating his worth by (allegedly) asking for 23 mil a year, which I agree is out the box.

But to say Brees wouldnt get the same demand in the open market as Brady, Rodgers, Eli or Peyton is beyond stupid.

Let the neg rep flood begin.

Sorry but Brees is a great QB because of Payton. He wouldn't be having this much success if he would have went to Miami. Is he a top 3 QB? Yes. Does he deserve to be paid like one? Yes. But the fact that all of the responses this far have been about Brees being an elite QB anywhere is false. Joe Montana wouldn't have been who he was if not for that particular system and the same for Tom Brady.

Sean Payton made Brees who he is today. I'm sure Brees would have still been a good QB but not like he is now.

Wasn't the high demand for Peyton because he was the only really good QB available for Free Agency? If Drew was the only available elite QB this offseason there would have been a ton of teams gunning for him. And it just drives me crazy all this talk about Eli being elite. It seems most of his passes are prayers thrown up to good receivers who have to make a great catch. Drew and. Eli. Should not even be in the same sentence together.

I'm so confused. When do system guys shatter 30 year old passing records?

When do system guys set records for highest completion percentage then break it the next season. When do system guys throw for 46 TDs?

You could make an argument that brees is a system guy...but he wouldn't be on the verge of signing the biggest contract in nfl history of he was just a product of the system

This whole hypothetical "He he still be good if he...." is just stupid. He plays in the system he in, how successful he is in that system relies on his talent and skill level.

As I said in my post on the 1st page, every quarterback is manipulated by the system they are in. If the Chargers would have held on to Brees, and brought in Norv Turner, Brees would be mentioned as a top QB. If he went to Miami, he probably would have stunk because they've been a merry go round of coaches and havent brought in good players.

Throw away the stats and wins for a minute and just look at the body of work on the field. You cant scheme what Drew Brees has done. Drew Brees makes the entire team better. He makes Sean Payton better, and Sean makes him better.

Sean brought Drew in and worked together to build this offense. Sean's offense isnt some plug and play type of deal. He designs his scheme around you skill set. And it all flows through Drew Brees.

So the entire notion of "Drew Brees isnt as good as so and so because he cant play for any team" is just dumb. Drew Brees isnt some guy with a weird skill set. He possess all the skills you want in an elite quarterback, that can be put to use in ever system. As far as stats goes, who knows. If he went to a run 1st offense, of course wouldnt put up the numbers he does now, but he would be efficient and he would execute the offense at a top level.

Im sure a good 25 teams would laugh at this article.

If this guy's premise is correct, why go through the trouble of trying to find an elite QB? Just plug him in a scheme, and there ya go, instant HOF QB.

The answer to those questions is "They don't. The system doesn't produce this. The QB does."

No doubt that the chemistry built between Payton and Brees is why we are SB contenders every year. But I think the people who are throwing their arms up saying "Brees is the greatest to play the game" is ridiculous. And yes if you think about it, everybody is a product of a system. But It's not to say that it would have panned out elsewhere. Bottom line is Brees is a great QB with many attributes. But I think it's far fetched when people get their panties in a bunch when Brees isnt being crowned king of the NFL.

It still amazes me that Drew Brees is still underrated nationally.

Brees has more passing attempts per game then any other QB to play the game. He shattered a record that was never thought to be beat. And I was there when it happened jumping for joy. But the game has changed and we will see Brees' record broken within the next 5 years. Hes a great QB and deserves to get paid but its ridiculous how defensive everyone gets when Brees isnt having a 100 ft golden statue built in Canton.
