Fox Sports' John Czarnecki: Brees overestimating his worth (1 Viewer)

Drew Brees is worth no more and no less than the current top QBs in the league. No way is he worth Manning's old contract because neither was Peyton Manning. I think Brees and mainly his agent are the reason for this contract taking so long to get done. They have a high number stuck in their heads and they are not budging. Fact is Team Brees needs to be reasonable and take the deal that makes him the highest paid player and is fair for both sides.

Does that have anything to do with this D0@!#*bag's article being incredibly & naively stupid as well as one of the most inaccurate pieces of garbage I have seen written since the bounty gate fiasco? This guy uses one negative statistic with one that doesn't even have any meaning as to who the greatest QB is. Then just happens to ignore the fact that Drew Brees has thrown for more touchdowns, more yards, & a higher completion per centage than ANY other QB in a SIX year period in the history of the NFL.

Anyone who writes an article comparing QBs, & feigns to be this critical of Brees, & manages to overlook those glaringly clear truths, has a very evil, immature, or selfish agenda & deserves no credibility as a legitimate football anylist. This guy gives new meaning to the word "anal"yst.

Another little factoid the little zit forgot to clarify is that the main reason Brady & Manning have less Ints. & fumbles than Brees the last five years is that Brees actually played the last five years running & neithther of the other two he campared him to did. :jpshakehead:

I have to make another post about this garbage story. I was going to join their stupid blog just to post what I thought about this crock of mindless drivel, but I wouldn't give a site like that the legitimacy of my post.

I'll say this for the record. That article doen't deserve to have my dog do his business on it.

Bottom line : Brees cannot overestimate his worth. However, every GM in the league can due to their responsibilities to the future of their organization. Which is where the contract issues come into play like Loomis and Brees agent (Tom Condon) are having.

Gus, you aint Mickey Loomis & neither is the guy who's story this thread is about. This story is the biggest popcorn poot to assume a cloak of legitamecy in the name of FSN & it is just a smear campaign against one of the greatest if not the greatest NFL QB of all time contract negotiations notwithstanding. If this writer knows as much about NFL negotiations as he does talent evaluation, then his thoughts are pretty worthless. Of course I subscribe to using & following untampered facts taken in real context so as to be useful for something besides placing boiled crawfish on.

Sorry, I haven't read all of the comments so forgive me if I am restating what someone else said, but....

Could someone please explain to me why Aaron Rodgers isn't a product of his coaches offense and a "system QB" when Matt Flynn can step in and have 2 incredible games that rivals any 2 games Rodgers ever had? Why isn't this a salient point for discussion? Or is this too damaging to his misguided opinion?

An other Hater join in the party. I am to a point that i careless about all what haters saying about the Saints franchise, Coaches and Saints players.

Keep it coming media, more fuel to our tank. Start of the season coming in Sept. and we will make our reply on the field.
Show them Brees how to shut up. :mwink:

Put the fair contract on the table 19-20 million a year with a big signing bonus with very good guaranteed money...if he doesn't take it make him play on the tag. If he sits out we still get a 1st and 3rd for him next year and we can take those picks along with our 1st and go up and get possibly Barkley. Sean Payton, Spagnuolo and Barkley is a legitimate contender.

I don't see how we get a one and three. Under the new CBA, drew would be no closer to free agency. He'd be bank looking at the same situation next year. It'd be a lose- lose for both sides the way I read the new rules.

Like others have said the writer's basic premise is correct - Brees/Condon rumored contract demands are overestimating his worth. Brees clearly deserves a contract in line with what Brady/Manning received but not millions more a season than both (and the Saints must protect themselves by not crippling themselves with guaranteed money). Brees is incredibly valuable make no mistake but even that has it's limits.

The problem with this article is the writer's attempt at supporting his basic premise -

1.) Brees is a product of the Saints system. Um no. Like all great QBs, Brees can play any system. His skills would be wasted as "game manager" or "run first" scheme but he could play in them. It just so happens that Brees is the perfect fit in Payton's "multiple read, quick react" Offense.

2.) Brees' size. Talk about a dead horse. I wonder if at 6' 1" Joe Montana would be treated the same by the press today.

3.) Turnovers. The author finally hits on a semi valid point. Brees has accounted for more TO's than the two guys whose contracts are being used as a yardstick. But Brees productivity since 2006 is greater than both.

4.) The author's train goes completely off the tracks with this statement - "Yes, Brees has proved his worth, but he’s not worth more than Manning and Brady, who each average about $18 million a season. Heck, Ben Roethlisberger, Rodgers and Eli Manning are better quarterbacks than Brees because they can play in any NFL system." Rodgers is in the Brady, P. Manning (pre injury), Brees "elite" QB discussion. Eli Manning would struggle in Sean Payton's Offense and the ultimate "game manager" QB Roethlisberger would be a complete disaster. The reason Roethlisberger and E. Manning have been successful is because their Offenses play to their strengths.

Shame he used such ridiculous evidence and just didn't stick with - "The word is that Brees wants an average salary surpassing $20 million a season, a financial number to make up for the fact the Saints paid him only $10 million a season when no one else wanted him after a horrific throwing shoulder injury in San Diego in 2006. The Saints believe they are entitled to a slight discount because they took a chance on Brees."

What does that mean?? You're worth what you get. If someone gets an absurdly huge contract then they've done something right in their careers. We don't see Tavaris Jackson getting a $100 million dollar contract. That's because he hasn't done anything to earn that. I'm sure if the Colts had it to do over again they would give Peyton Manning that same contract. He was the epitome of an iron man, right up until he got hurt.

Somebody early in the offseason showed that if Brees sat we could still give him a type of franchise tag....non-exclusive that would allow him to leave for a 1st and 3rd.

Are Fox Sports writers subject to random **** test?
