Future WR core (11 Viewers)

The Saints need impact at WR, DE, DT, LB, CB, TE, and/or S from their first-round pick. I wouldn't hate it if the top LG is sitting there. I wish they could trade down and pick up an asset or two. They most definitely are not one player away.

I understand wanting to be optimistic and looking for bright spots. When I put down the gold colored glasses and look at what we have, I'm much less optimistic.

In Olave we have a guy that so far seems to be more of a 1B and he has a concussion issue. Even if he is a 1A, he has a concussion issue. Expect him to miss time. Do you want your top guy wearing street clothes for half of each season?

Shaheed is a great "shot" guy. I see him as a #3 who could contribute as a #2 in a pinch. Not the ideal spot for him though.

MVS is basically Shaheed. He's bounced around because he has the dropsies. So far so good with the Saints, but ask GB and KC about it.

Means has flashed but whats his ceiling? Is he going to become that #1 or #2 you need? I wouldn't bet on it. Can he develop in to a rotational guy? Maybe.

Tipton is an unsigned free agent who isn't taking advantage of his opportunity to play and as a result was a healthy scratch last week. Rotational guy at best.

Pettis is a journeyman. Same with Wilson. Rotational vets.

E. St Brown is a veteran who can't earn an opportunity on a team that desperately needs help at his position. Not good.

I'm probably more excited about Kevin Austin than any of them, but I don't see him becoming a top tier guy. Rotational.

What does all of this mean? We probably need a #1 and #2 because I'm not counting on Olave. I'd love to say we can find those guys in the draft, but we need help at a lot of other positions too. Mickey can tell us we aren't rebuilding, and we can choose to believe him, but I'll go with what I'm seeing rather than what I'm hearing or want to believe. A rebuild needs to take place. We have some parts, but every team does.

I think we have to draft a WR in the first few rounds b/c we can’t count on Olave. If we end up keeping Kubiak, we also have to start looking for a young, versatile offensive skill player who can do at least some of the things Taysom can do b/c at 34 he’s not getting any younger.

If Tre Haris is not available in the 3rd, which he likely won't be, I really like Jalen Royals at WR. I see the first 2 picks being linemen though. I know that won't excite some people but I guess that is what makes Saints football so boring.

Here's a random top ten list of free agent wide receivers after this season. I'm sure someone else can dig more, but just a quick Google:

1) Tee Higgins, Cincinnati Bengals
2) Amari Cooper, Buffalo Bills
3) Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
4) Stefon Diggs, Houston Texans
5) DeAndre Hopkins, Kansas City Chiefs
6) Diontae Johnson, Baltimore Ravens
7) Hollywood Brown, Kansas City Chiefs
8) Keenan Allen, Chicago Bears
9) Elijah Moore, Cleveland Browns
10) Mike Williams, Pittsburgh Steelers

It's not a good yr for young FA WRs , really Higgins is the only prize

Tee Higgins is probably the only guy on that list that I think would make sense for the Saints. He's a true #1. But it will depend on if Loomis is still in soft reset mode or if his is going to start kicking the can again.
I's love to get Higgins but he's going to be mucho $$. . I'd rather if we make a FA splash it be on the DL. I think the better deal on a young interior DL might be best. A young guy being a key, someone that can push the middle and stop the run so that the QB can't step up giving our edge guys a better chance

I think we have 2 more yrs of TH at close to this level. Reason why is although he may be 34 he has not played a lot of football in the NFL. Really he's played 7 yrs , his 1st yr here he was just a ST/ Backup QB guy. The only issue is his chance of injury may go up some

Bad Gm's draft early in the 1st round receivers. Receiver is the most dependent position in all of football.

We can find good receivers who can contribute day 1 in the 3rd or later rounds. There is so many fast guys out there with good hands. You do not need to waste early picks on 1 nor sign some free agent that commands top money.

Truthfully a tight end is more valuable than a receiver. In pay they are not but they are so athletic and big boys usually. Jimmy G, Kittle, Shockey, Gonzalez, Sharpe, Kelce, Taysom, etc. Tight end can do way more than a receiver.

How many times have we heard from the announcer or over the loud speaker call an average tight end named Alge Crumpler. Thats just 1 example.
That's just ridiculous. Chase , Jefferson , Lamb, Wilson Devonta Smith. all top 17 picks

Mike Gesicki is on pace for his best season since 2021 while catching passes from Joe Burrow. He didn't receive much interest last offseason and collected less than $500,000 guaranteed on his Cincinnati Bengals contract, but Gesicki will easily be the best tight end available in 2025.

Tyler Conklin is a three-down tight end — that alone should land him a two-year deal in 2025. Juwan Johnson inked an extension with the New Orleans Saints last March but managed only 368 receiving yards in 2023. He's rebounded this season but still isn't considered a needle-mover.

Perhaps an untested tight end like John Bates or Kylen Granson could post better production with an expanded role. However, teams searching for tight ends next offseason may need to consider draft or trade alternatives.

  1. Mike Gesicki, Cincinnati Bengals
  2. Tyler Conklin, New York Jets
  3. Juwan Johnson, New Orleans Saints
  4. Zach Ertz, Washington Commanders
  5. John Bates, Washington Commanders
  6. Kylen Granson, Indianapolis Colts
  7. Austin Hooper, New England Patriots
  8. Johnny Mundt, Minnesota Vikings
  9. Pharaoh Brown, Seattle Seahawks
  10. Tommy Tremble, Carolina Panthers

Could TE Mike Gesicki or TE Austin Hooper be our big body / high point receiver option?

TE Jimmy Graham types aren’t everywhere, but if we could find his archetype… we’d have a whole new set of offensive options.
