Georgia Tech’s Justin Thomas has successful tryout with Saints (1 Viewer)

GT has been a decent football program for a while. Saying that they're clearly outmatched in the ACC in terms of the talent they can recruit is faulty. The university is in a top 5-6 state in terms of high school football talent and is one of only 2 power 5 programs within that state. The flex bone has no business in modern day football. If it did, actual championship caliber football teams at the collegiate/professional level would utilize it, which they don't.

Well considering Auburn is on the state like, bama has Saban, and Clemson is close too, they'd better have something because with their academics, they won't be a powerhouse running a normal style. They just won't consistently get the top talent to compete.

Maybe... I'm not so sure the talent at Navy wasn't up to par with all the teams they beat. Saying what a team does with a certain system and ignoring what they might would do with a more common system seems unproveable and 100% opinion. What is factual is that a team hasn't won a National Championship nor a Super Bowl with that system almost literally since Nam..

I get the love. It's throwback, nostalgic football. I've debated this with my brother (a HS football coach and flexbone purist) more times than I can count. It's just not relevant anymore in big boy football, and it hurts the development of talented athletes IMO

If you have time to prepare your players for it you can some what contain it. Usually a option team like GT/Navy/AF if they have a solid match up week one or in a bowl game they don't fair so well. Talent difference in teams will show up quickly. Now it gets difficult during the grind of a season cause you have to throw out your whole base defense for a week. Auburn got to Champ running basically a flex/wish from shotgun it still works. Pairs very well with a team with a strong defense. LSU should have ran it in my opinion. Right personal very tough to stop.

Youre right about LSU... but 20,000,000 LSU fans would throw things at you for taking our offense back another 50 years!!!

I don't understand why that's not used some in the NFL. Not as an offensive system, but sprinkled in like everything else is.

You worry about injuries works best with a run/throw option. Seattle sprinkles in some flex plays. Agree a wish bone package would be something a defense would have to spend valuable game prep time to prepare for. Work like magic when it first gets unleashed with out no film on it. Film league. For example the SP suspension year. All pre season they running the shannahan traditional zone read bootleg pass playbook. Season opener they unleash the Baylor spread on us. Now we were not very good but they would have hung 40 on anyone that game.

He doesn't break many tackles, but he outruns most people. Reminds me of Cooks, but can he catch?

Im still surprised that his teammate Deon Hill never got signed. He was a good receiving back.

I think they both were also on that team with Deandre Smelter and Darrin Waller.

As for Thomas he might have some nickel potential with his speed and build. It reminds me of Orlando Scandrick

Not to get off topic, but LSU didn't have a QB that could run that offense or any other offense for that matter. Sure they had guys with talent but neither their running nor passing game was developed.

Fast LB's and DL pretty much stuff option plays.

But I DO like to put in wrinkles that the defense has to scheme for.

When we put Reggie (4.3 40!) in motion, at least 1 would follow him, 1 or 2 others would shift. Loved it!

Just trying to be realistic here, but Thomas is going to need to stand out on Special Teams to make it as a DB with the Saints.

It is all but guaranteed that Lattimore, Breaux, and Moore are making the final 53. Crawley might as well be added in since at the worst he made some fantastic plays on Special Teams and played pretty well at CB all things considered. Williams was good enough to win a starting job last season, if he's healthy, I think he's also a lock. So that's 5 CBs already. De'vante Harris is another name to watch.

At Safety you know Vaccaro, Bell, Williams, and Bush are locks. Can't write off Erik Harris. 4 definite and 1 hopeful.

You've got 9 DBs already, and the 2 hopefuls made last years final roster.

Last season the Saints final 53 after cutdowns was 5 CBs and 5 Safeties.

Going to be a very tough camp to make the final 53 as a rookie UDFA DB on the Saints.

Just listened to Nick Under hill on 100.3 and asked about Justin Thomas he said right now he has no idea where he will play right now he should be listed as an athlete.

OTA's should give them a chance to see where he fits. WR, RB, WR, KR are the most likely
