Giants releasing Janoris Jenkins (4 Viewers)

Before the tweet, what has he done that makes him a bad person? Some people let their emotions get to them. It’s hard to let someone bash you and not retaliate. He’s still a human being. I have heard nothing but good things about him before this. After all, he was on a team that is struggling.
To me, it's less about saying something stupid or offensive, but rather his reaction to the organization's response. He's not even willing to give one of those "I apologize if you were offended" type non-apology apologies?

And then channel his internal Antonio Brown when he gets cut? Yeah, he may not be a bad guy but he's acting pretty unintelligently at the moment.

I'd grab him for the playoff run. He's always been a borderline knucklehead.

I also think timing was important. He tweeted that DURING practice.

He called somebody a retard and then refused to apologize for it. I guess he could run for President if the football thing is over ?‍♂️
He called someone a slur. I didn’t say he shouldn’t be allowed to look ignorant, but I don’t want the Saints associating with someone like that.

Oh. Good to know. Seems kind of silly. Do you happen to know why?
It’s so that teams can’t make any “wink and nod” unofficial trades circumventing the trade deadline. Teams would otherwise just release corresponding players with the understanding that they would sign with the other team.

But wouldn't the released player have a say in where he signs since he's an unrestricted FA? It doesn't make sense that a wink and a nod agreement to circumvent the trade deadline is possible since no one has rights to the released player but the player himself.

Yes the player would have to be in on the deal, they couldn’t be forced against their will. But if you think some players wouldn’t participate in this kind of “cheating” you’re kidding yourself. It would be just like when a player works out a new contract with the team trading for him in order to facilitate the trade.

I disagree that it's anything like a player working out a deal with the team he's being traded to. That's to benefit the team so that they're sure they're not just getting a rental of someone on an expiring contract.

If teams were willing to go to these lengths to circumvent the trade deadline, why wouldn't they just make a trade before the deadline so that the team that's releasing the player actually receives something for them? In your scenario, the team releasing the player has absolutely nothing to gain by participating in this.

Looks like the Giants Twitterverse is happy he's gone. Some want 1/3rd of the team gone.

The scenario would take place after the trade deadline most likely do to one of the participating teams being eliminated from contention or an injury occurring to a team still in the playoffs and them becoming desperate.

Obviously its not exactly the same as working out an extension that wasn't my point, my point was that players are sometimes involved in choosing/agreeing to a trade partner, for example Robert Quinn was allowed to make visits to the Saints and Cowboys, while still a member of the Dolphins to choose the team he preferred.

They don't receive nothing, its a player for a player swap, I release player A with a verbal agreement that he will immediately sign with you, you release player B with the understanding he immediately signs with me, bam we just made a trade after the trade deadline.

Oh, ok. I get what you're saying now. I guess that would all be possible. It just seems like the stars would have to align for something like that to take place. Jenkins and now Suggs were both released today and Suggs was supposedly released so he could catch on with a playoff team. Your scenario would have to take place for that to happen, IMO, since he has such a small salary left this year and his entire 2020 salary was signing bonus.

It doesn't matter much anyway. I remember a couple of years ago that Payton called out Jenkins as a particular player that he wanted to target and he got roasted.

He's not that good and he's injured right now anyway.
