Granderson gets 4 year extension 4/52 mil 35 gtd (1 Viewer)

I’m really surprised that they did this after just two games into this season after being thrust into the starter role after Turner went down. I think it’s the right move, but only time will tell.

The IRS just mad when I be #Loomising

:hihi:

Sorry, but I am stealing that, well... stole, past tense. Thank you 😊

Granderson’s been listed as the starting RDE since the offseason began. He ran with the first team all offseason in OTAs, minicamp and training camp. Turner rotated in behind him since camp.

He’s been our most consistent DL after Cam. Outplayed Turner and Davenport last season in a rotation. He’s generating pressures as much as top rushers in the league. Saints realized how much Granderson’s improved in the full time starter role since before week 1 and got ahead of his projected pace before he became too costly on the open market. FA DEs are bringing in nearly 20M per year. Fair deal to get him at 13M AAV early. Only injury will stop him from reaching 11+ sacks in the next 15 games and he’s always been healthy.

That and what they saw from Foskey in preseason, Loomis probably couldn’t sleep until this deal got done.
I’m glad that the Saints are deciding to move off players sooner. If somehow Turner or Foskey pan out, great! But you can’t see what you’ve seen and assume they’re going to turn it around. Perhaps one of those two can provide decent depth one day

Why is this even a comparison in the first place? :interrogations.gif:
There was a sexual assault conviction back in the day for Granderson and I don’t want to minimize that. But the personality red flags were definitely in the forefront before Galette was extended. Hopefully Granderson stays clean and continues to stay motivated.

It’s a risk…but I prefer this risk over dumping three 1sts and a 2nd rounder over a three year time period trying to remedy the situation.

I’ve said Granderson comps to Preston Smith in a couple of threads. Both will make 13M. I was spot on! Also, the Vikings are paying Davenport 13M. Lol.

Granderson has 1 QB hit and ZERO sacks over the last two weeks. Tenn and Carolina OL were injured/bad.

Yup.

Dude had a few good games then immediately called his agent to cash in. Smart move.

Typical NFL these days, mistake paying him early.

Secured the bag and then went missing. Seen this story many times.

Eh...low hanging fruit

I'm not mad at anything on the defensive side of the ball.

We were assured things gon be better this year "cuz motion" and "cuz franchise QB"
In a way, it's worse...and more expensive

I didn't like the early extension when it was announced that he had signed... yet another bad contract. I love me some Cam but I didn't understand why you extend a mid-30 year old player.

Just my opinion though... congrats to both of them for getting their money.

I questioned the timing when they signed him. Let's let him play out the season before we reward him. Feels a lot like (for the life of me I can't remember his name but you know who I'm talking about). I'm not saying he's gonna bust but there was no need to sign him this early into the season.

Preston Smith 2022: 8.5 sacks, 59 tackles, 9 TFLs, and 20 QB hits.

Granderson 2023: 8.5 sacks, 78 tackles, 14 TFLs, and 20 QB hits.

I’d say my expectation of him were spot on. He played the run really well this year. We need to find a star DE but this looks to be a solid re-signing at market rate.
