Harry Potter TV Series (3 Viewers)

HBO has kicked off its search for the next Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, with the studio posting an open casting call for its forthcoming TV adaptation.

The casting call – which the studio confirmed to the Guardian was authentic – is looking for children who will be between the ages of 9 and 11 in April 2025. They will audition to play the boy wizard and his two magical friends as they go on coming-of-age adventures and fight evil at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

While all aspiring actors must be residents of the UK and Ireland, producers are “committed to inclusive, diverse casting”, the advert said, and it will be open to all races, ethnicities and gender identities.

The casting call is asking for each prospective actor to submit two short self-tapes, including a short poem or story – but nothing from Harry Potter.

“Please use your own accent,” the casting call states.

The new series, announced last year by HBO’s parent company, Warner Bros Discovery, will run for at least seven seasons on Max, the streaming service previously known as HBO Max, with each season “authentic” to each of the original, wildly popular books written by JK Rowling. Rowling will serve as an executive producer on the “decade-long” series……

I would love to be excited about this but I'm tired of Hollywood screwing things up.
I have little faith.

Recent updates have shed light on the release date of the highly anticipated Harry Potter HBO series. Reports suggest that production is moving forward, with casting underway for the central roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione. However, fans may need to wait longer than initially expected for the show to premiere.

The new Harry Potter television series, which was earlier slated to be released in 2026, is now expected to premiere 2027.

JB Perrette, CEO and President of Global Streaming for Warner Bros. Discovery, confirmed the timeline during a tech and media conference. He described the series as the start of a "10-year journey," highlighting the company's long-term plans for the project (via Variety).

The series will adapt J.K. Rowling's seven-book saga, with production scheduled to begin in 2025. Casting is reportedly underway for actors aged 9-11 to portray Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger (via TVLine).

The plan includes shooting seasons close together to minimize age discrepancies, as explained by Casey Bloys, HBO's Chief Content Officer. Bloys noted, "One of the ideas we talked about was shooting the first season and the second season very close to each other time-wise."..............

shaking cane moment - but why in the world is it taking shows/movies so much longer to come out?

It's becoming more of a conversation lately. People seem to be getting tired of waiting three years for 8-10 episodes. And I've honestly never heard any good arguments for why it takes so long these days aside from TV productions being bigger than they used to be. Which while true still doesn't really explain anything.

UPDATED: Paapa Essiedu is being eyed for the role of Professor Severus Snape in the upcoming “Harry Potter” TV series, Varietyhas confirmed with sources.

According to sources, no deal is currently in place and Essiedu has not formally accepted the role. He is the latest actor to be mentioned for a part in the series. Variety previously reported that Academy Award winner Mark Rylance was in the running for the role of Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore.

Reps for HBO responded to Variety‘s request for comment with the following statement: “We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation. As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals.”…….

It’s really hard to picture anyone replacing Snape. The long hair, the pale skin, the hook nose…. He was perfect for that role.

I get it, they want to cast a black person to show diversity. But Snape is the wrong character. Would have much rather seen them cast a black actor for Dumbledore, it would be a lot more acceptable than Snape.

In the books he is described as having sallow skin, a hook nose and greasy black hair.

Also is it going to turn out that James Potter was racist for bullying Snape as a kid?

He has/can have that same kind of low tone voice that I think really lends to the character as well (I actually just finished a full movie rewatch yesterday)
