less than zerolol, was there any doubt?
Hmm I think there are certain characters that people love or become attached to. The idea of replacing them because of the color of one’s skin gets on people’s nerves. Snape was one of them. He had this redemption story no matter how much you hated him for most of his history. It’s not a racism.the treating of fiction - in particular fantasy - as some mix of historical document and sacred text
Not if the Potters are black tooAlso is it going to turn out that James Potter was racist for bullying Snape as a kid?
Well they’re replacing everyoneHmm I think there are certain characters that people love or become attached to. The idea of replacing them because of the color of one’s skin gets on people’s nerves. I believe people will see what they want to see.Well they’re replacing everyone
And even if not Alan Rickman is dead, so….
If the chief complaint about the replacement is that the new actor is black while the other was white (which is what the post I referred to did)
It’s hard to arrive at any other conclusion
The issue is that some people see things before they see thingsI believe people will see what they want to see.

It’s not racist at all. It has everything to do with the description of Snape in the book. The description helps portray Snapes Identity and why he is the way he is.He wasn't replaced BECAUSE of the color of his skin. Only racist think like that. He was cast because the showrunners thought he'd be great in the role.
The idea that the only reason this guy got the part is because he's black is inherently racist. They're not going to cast the person who plays Harry Potter with someone that's Jewish because the person's Jewish, they will do so because after auditions he was the best person according to the showrunners. No one is going to say he got the job because he's Jewish. Or substitute American, whatever. It's always skin color for racists.
Again, if someone's objection to the casting of a black person in a fantasy movie is, "it's because they're black", and not "they're not a good actor", it's racist. Only someone that's racist sees the former as a reasonable reason to object to a casting. Call it a racism cloud, but no being able to see WHY it's racist...is part of the problem.
Out of curiosity. I am not a racist.
I will attempt to answer and I suppose be judged as well. How do I know? My son in law is black and I treat him the same as any of my other children. I look forward to being with him when we do things together etc. when we see each other we hug, kiss on the cheek etc.Out of curiosity
(And it’s legit an honest question)
As a white guy how do you make this assessment?
tbc I have the same question when a guy claims he’s not sexist or a straight person says they’re not homophobic
What are they using to make that assessment?
Outside of social context, I have similar reservations with a statement like ‘I am not a liar’ - in broad terms I don’t know how to value that statement
i appreciate you sharing all of that - and i value what you sayI will attempt to answer and I suppose be judged as well. How do I know? My son in law is black and I treat him the same as any of my other children. I look forward to being with him when we do things together etc. when we see each other we hug, kiss on the cheek etc.
I will also add because of my behavior in my youth. I was a racist. I used to say I wasn’t because I wasn’t the kind of person that called names, or things like that but I feel I did judge people unfairly. I recognize that behavior, I have changed that behavior and I did it on my own.
When a friend of mine laughed and started messing with me about 9 years ago because my daughter was dating a black guy I defended them and dropped out of his life when he didn’t want to stop.
I think ultimately it’s because I can look in the mirror and acknowledge I am a different person than I was before.
Adam Driver was right there!!Was introduced to him in the Lazarus Project
