Having Babies (2 Viewers)

We went to one of the labor and birth classes at the hospital. The nurse was talking about everything you go through with labor and delivery and she didn't hold back any details. When we left the class I actually felt sorry that my wife was going to have to go through that. Now she doesn't even remember it being that bad and is already starting to plan when we are going to have the next one.

I think it's useful to learn the process and be aware of common complications, but do so in a clinical setting like you did. Just get the facts and leave off the drama.

Your baby is just adorable.

humbling - mine is 2.5 yrs and i still don't know who i am independent of his father
(i was a pretty productive performing artist before he was born, now my creative output involves trains and buzz lightyear - which i am more than fine with)

my wife had to get a c-section - we were trying to a vbac but her cervix had other ideas.
after a routine visit we went to our favorite breakfast place (surreys) and she felt him drop so we thought we were on the clock - evidently he hopped back up
starting friday she started have little contractions and we weren't sure if he was coming (everyone said "oh, you'll know")
the contractions became more frequent (but still not more intense) the hospital said to come on in - luckily our OB was on duty - she had been with us on the vbac but we were almost 2 weeks past, and she just said - look let's just go get him

an hour later we had our son - i sat with her on the other side of the magic sheet - i was mostly concentrating on keeping her calm (and trying not to get freaked out at how much blood and goop was on the floor)
they put us in the room across the hall and they let me hold my son and my life started again

I just can't convince myself that I don't have a kid somewhere in some city, but I'd like to think I don't.. Still don't like thinking about it though.. Never seen a baby born though.. I was five when my sister was born, and I don't remember being in the room.

My wife and I read tons of books, took classes and spoke to as many people as possible about what to expect on my daughters birthday. In the end, the only thing I can remember thinking up to the point of the actual birth was how glad I was it wasn't me laying on the bed screaming. I was a good soldier and helped my wife stay focused and do whatever excercise that made her feel most comfortable at the time, but I remember thinking over and over that this was something I was glad I didn't have to do. Not once during the whole pregnancy did I have the thought that I was jealous of my wife. Some of my friends had that feeling, but not me.

I was happy to be the spotter throughout the pregnancy.

When my daughter was born all I could feel was calm, which surprised me. I didn't jump up and down with joy or cry, I was kind of astonished by what just happened and the way it happened. Once they allowed people to come in after my wife breast fed her the first time, I saw eevryone, but I don't remember hearing any sound....similar to playing ball. You're so focused on whats happening, you don't hear or see anything other than the job at hand, in this case it was staring at my new baby. I was so in the moment I didn't realize what the sex of the baby was until the next day.

Great day.

I wanna make a baby... wife said not yet :(

You're only 25. Don't rush it. And while she's getting mentally prepared, you can be preparing in other ways. But do spend some time being just the two of you. Once you have a baby, you are never alone again.

Take time to comprehend these bolded words....trust me.

I was wishing it was all a bad dream even up until I was in the delivery room. It was unplanned ( at least on my end) and even though we had been married a couple of years, I wasn't ready. Through all the books, classes, baby clothes, baby furniture, doctors visits, baby showers,ultrasounds,...etc. I was an unwilling participant (inwardly) and I'm sure it was visible outwardly to some degree. It all changed once he was delivered and I saw him and held him. In truth, I don't think anyone is really ready for their first and the guys don't have the benefit of all the feel-good hormones being pumped into their bodies. I'm glad of the outcome and wouldn't change it for the world but there have been times in the last twenty years that I've considered seeing about a trade-in. So when some guy asks me about it all these are the three things I tell them. 1) Smile, nod, and do everything that's asked of you during the whole event regardless of what you think or feel.2) Everything will be different once you see your child.3)Stand at her shoulders and look toward her feet during the delivery. You'll be there to assist and you will see enough without seeing too much.
