Hiring Moore = Ashton Jeanty as 1st rd pick? (31 Viewers)

My thought here has always been that I don’t envision us making sweeping changing to the OL. I feel like we are essentially locked into a core group of four guys, and can likely fill in the G slot in free agency (Mekhi Becton could be someone to keep an eye on).

I don’t see us investing a lot more into the unit at this time. We are basically at the stage where we need to focus on coaching up what we have and getting them into gel, and getting one final piece could be all that’s
needed.

I think all options are on the table as long as Rizzi isn't the HC. A new coach could come in an want to completely revamp the OL. Maybe he wants to run power gap and wants to bring in a huge OL like Philly has? Or maybe he really thinks Penning and/or Ruiz stink and that Fuaga would be better at RT?

With a brand new set of eyes looking at your team you never know what players or group of player they will like or want to get rid of.

Abdul Carter from Penn State or Mykel Williams would be a good fit for the Saints in the first round and Omarion Hampton in the second round. More upside to take a DE in the first round than a RB at the 10 spot. JMO

I know everyone is in love with Jeanty, I would be happy with Hampton or Johnson in the second (especially if we could trade back to the late second) or Sampson or James in the middle rounds. I think all these guys will be good NFL backs and we could get some good value taking one of them later rather than taking Jeanty at 9.

I think the drop off between Jeanty and the rest of them is not huge, and if we could trade back from 9, and pick up a few extra picks, I'd love to do so.

But, I wouldn't be mad at Jeanty at 9 at all.

Someone will take Hampton at the bottom third of the 1st round. He won't be there when we pick in the 2nd.

Big "NO" from me on Mykel Williams. I don't see any bend from him. Only size, athleticism traits with little production. So, of course the Saints will fall in love with him.

Let's say McMillan and Jeanty are both there at 9. McMillan solves a huge need as a contested catch guy, but Jeanty is a more elite prospect but our O-line this year probably won't let him look elite.

Who would you guys and gals take?
If we are rolling with Carr, the receiver might be a better choice. If we are letting Rattler have a legitimate shot, then a guy like Jeanty could help take the focus off the young QB. The RB is coming back as defenses got smaller and faster over the years. We didn't hesitate to take Bush. I wouldn't hesitate to take Jeanty.

Trade back one pick and take whoever is left out of the two while getting another draft pick :p
Honestly though.. would be hard to pass on Tet.

I would contest that idea. I think McMillan is a better prospect. I don't know what kind of 40 Jeanty runs, but to my eye, I don't see the kind of explosive speed you should expect from a top 10 pick at RB.

At this moment, I'm inclined to take the best DL or OL available.

We aren't one guy away from a Super Bowl anyway. And we finished the season handing off the ball to Edwards-Helaire.

Passing on elite prospects for lower graded guys at higher positions of need would be a big mistake in the long run.

That of course assumes that the Saints or other teams will have a higher grade on Jeanty than the other guys available at #9. The best case scenario for the Saints is from someone with a higher grade than Jeanty to be on the board when they pick. If that's not the case, I'm fine with taking Jeanty, but it would be a better situation for this team if a higher rated DL, OL, WR, or CB was sitting there at #9. You can get a much better RB later on than you can get DL, OL, WR, or CB. So I think we would get better players if we can take a higher rated DL, OL, WR, or CB at #9 and then get a RB in rounds 2 to 4. This is a very deep RB class.

this and only this
fix the lines and THEN get toys - it won't work the other way

If you use the word FIX then that needs to be applied to free agency. Not the draft, especially a top 10 pick when you have a chance to add a blue chip prospect.

It's a multi-year project, you don't do one thing and then the other. You draft the best player available. You don't pass up an elite playmaker to draft an inferior lineman just like you shouldn't pass up an elite lineman to draft an inferior player just because they can make contested catches.

You say it won't work the other way but "toys" are just as vital as the line. If I have a "toy" that can get open quickly or make a contested catch then my line doesn't have to block as long. If I have a "toy" with elite vision and can break tackles then the holes don't need to be as big, if a player comes in unblocked then my "toy" can break the tackle and get positive yards.

You take Abdul Carter all day everyday over Jeanty or anyone else there at 9 except possibly Mason Graham. But there’s no chance either will be there at 9

The idea of Mykel Williams is better than the actual player.

His tape is just awful. Stiff, average get off, no pass rush moves. Foskey 2.0.

I don't have much concern about Jeanty's speed. If he runs, I think he'll be low 4.4s. He seems plenty fast on the highlight reel.

My concern is I don't see the same "make you miss in a phone booth" shiftiness that you see with Saquon or Bijan. But I have to study up a lot more.

I do worry about McMillan's route running and top end speed.

Skattebo, for example, could fit the bill in round 3.
