McMillian then Skatebo in the 3rdLet's say McMillan and Jeanty are both there at 9. McMillan solves a huge need as a contested catch guy, but Jeanty is a more elite prospect but our O-line this year probably won't let him look elite.
Who would you guys and gals take?
OR, Jeanty then Savion WilliamsMcMillian then Skatebo in the 3rd
Practically there’s no such thing as elite running behind an inferior lineIf you use the word FIX then that needs to be applied to free agency. Not the draft, especially a top 10 pick when you have a chance to add a blue chip prospect.
It's a multi-year project, you don't do one thing and then the other. You draft the best player available. You don't pass up an elite playmaker to draft an inferior lineman just like you shouldn't pass up an elite lineman to draft an inferior player just because they can make contested catches.
You say it won't work the other way but "toys" are just as vital as the line. If I have a "toy" that can get open quickly or make a contested catch then my line doesn't have to block as long. If I have a "toy" with elite vision and can break tackles then the holes don't need to be as big, if a player comes in unblocked then my "toy" can break the tackle and get positive yards.
Also, Hurts' ability to run the ball further helps the OL and Barkley. Opposing defense can't fire off the ball into the backfield as often as they could vs more of a pocket passer. Philly also has one of the best WR-WR-TE trios in the league. There's no good way to defend against Philly when their offense is clicking. Other than maybe getting some help from the refs. Guess we'll see how that goes next week.An elite OL for Barkley to run behind and an Elite DL is taking the Eagles to the SB. Barkley was a very good RB, but he wasn't this elite until he got behind that Philly OL.
Could drafting an RB be the equiv of getting one on a cheap deal? I think wha'ts fun about his run game is he mixes up the looks, we may already have the line to make his run game effective, and since attacking downfield seems to be more calculated than an offensive philosophy it may not require much tweaking at the OT position. Almost seems like more read option w/ someone like Rattler and Kamara/Miller would make RB/TE a premium.Prior to Philly he had a reputation of being very pass happy and even too pass happy at times. He seems to adjust his offense to the talent he has. Maybe we take Jeanty because he saw what Barkley did (that is if he thinks Jeanty is another Barkley), but it's also possible that he saw that what Philly did was build the OL and DL before going out and getting a RB in free agency on a relatively cheap deal. Or maybe he thinks we need more WR options or a TE to do what he really wants to do.
It absolutely will work, it will just take another draft or a good free agency. But you cannot pass on the toys when they are there, you don’t get chances to get elite players often and when you do you have to take them!!!! We are rebuilding whether we want to admit it or not.this and only this
fix the lines and THEN get toys - it won't work the other way
Skattebo, for example, could fit the bill in round 3.

He was still really really good in New York though. Philly put him in the all-time category. That and the read option that Hurts runs well means that they have to make sure that the QB didn't keep the ball before pursuing Barkley. Barkley was the same guy in New York but he didn't have elite production because he didn't have an elite OL, the right system, or a QB who was a threat on the Read Option.
Our line isn't that bad though. Our tackles are very good at run blocking and it was their first year starting at the position. Our center is the only pro bowler on our roster. Replacing Ruiz is more of want than a need. LG is a need and should be addressed in FA.Practically there’s no such thing as elite running behind an inferior line
In fact you’re probably shaving years off a back’s career
And no one is saying that if the only lineman available at 9 is graded at 20 on your board you take him anyway
But if you have both graded at 9 you definitely take O or D line and wait a year for your elite playmaker
