No, I facepalmed that you don't want to do any actual means testing to see what works and doesn't and then just trust your gut feel on what is good or bad because, well you just know it.

I didn’t say I would or wouldn’t accept or reject any specific programs.

I merely made the statement that any program which was wholly taken advantage of, and which enabled poverty instead of helping to eradicate it is one that I wouldn’t support.

You’re just so dead set on pushing your narrative that you are reading further into what u think I am saying than what I am ACTUALLY saying.

Completely wrong. There is no specific System that I am speaking about. I was merely making a general statement about any system that takes the shape of the ones I mentioned. That’s it. You guys are reading further into it because you have a narrative you’re trying to push.

You know what? No need to reply yo anything I have said. I hope lurkers who are reading this thread can see this as a microcosm of the greater issue at play in today’s society.

A society that is quicker to label than to allow the freedom of thought diversity.

A society that is quicker to ostracize than to understand.

Quicker to talk than to listen.

Quicker to push a narrative than to have true discourse about a subject.

Quicker to believe we live in a heartless world with heartless evil people than to entertain the idea that others might have a different way to go about fixing the same issues they care about.


This thread is a perfect exercise in the futility of a two way discussion. I feel very sorry for all involved and I’ll take a break from this site for a while.

In my opinion , based upon nothing more than gut feelings, it would take three separate programs or phases of a program to make a big dent in the local homeless population. (About 16,000 people in my county)

1. meaningful drug interdiction
2. effective mental health interdiction
3. Something akin to the WPA, CCC and PWA jobs of the 30s

This would give an easy to step onto platform to build up lives from. The costs of course would be tremendous, but the returns would be worth it


Just my opinion and worth less than a cup of coffee, but I believe it

Well, to address your fetish like obsession with this one aspect of the discussion, sure. I mean, that way ICE could much more easily find and deport the ones who are a problem in terms of crime and who aren't gong to be considered for asylum or any path to permanent residency. The Immigration courts could have an address to send their summons to. Employers would have a location to fill the square in the 1099 forms and Social Security would know where to send their yearly statements. The kids would be normalized into a permanent school setting allowing them to socialize with other students and assimilate to the American culture. Home Health Care workers would be able to track the children and make sure their immunization was up to date.
The savings on all of the administrative costs issues above would more than cover the costs of that particular aspect of the program.

Does that work? Can you stop the attempt to thread jack this into a purely political discussion of a separate issue now?

We know the fruits of Hitler's labor. You know nothing about this poster and make the assumption that he is "wasting his time with hate and contempt". Then implying that he is not a good man by telling him it's never to late to be one. You're not fooling anybody.

i agree with this - the poster who claimed MTDB was never poor kind of threw a monkey wrench into the thread that actually felt substantive
so he had to transition to a place where he was defending himself vs defending/supporting his contentions
i wish he would not have stooped to ad hominem attacks while admonishing, but it's understandable
