I don't think it's overprotective. It's more like a doctor trying to treat your dry skin when cancer's invading your lymph nodes. Like, yeah, we don't want dry skin and all, but maybe let's fix the terminal issues first.

I don't read every thread that gets created (largely because many of them are garbage....namely after a loss)............but I can't say I ever viewed the Grupe critique threads as "forget about playcalling, our offense, our defense, our Gatorade color, etc".......THIS IS THE DUDE WHO SHOULD BE BLAMED FOR IT ALL".

Yeah, he's been a problem. Maybe his problems would be hidden better if the offense had scored more in the red zone in certain games, meaning in some of these games he could have missed kicks with a double-digit lead and they'd have been less critical during his learning curve.......but at the end of the day, he was chosen over a proven commodity......and with that, comes additional expectations.

Grupe was 5 for 5 before the last kick that was missed when the game was already decided with only one timeout and a less than a minute left.

He was literally the only reason the Saints were on the scoreboard in the game.

We have a QB who can’t throw any 10-30 yard TDs on 6 RZ-sub RZ attempts. But the 6th FG attempt, which is ridiculous, is somehow a critical kick to complain about after Grupe made 5 to carry the team.

I have no doubt that absent the fumble and INT, he would have been at least 6 out of 7 and we win.

Not only was he 5 for 6, he hit from 49 and 52.

Sorry, that last kick wasn't even fair for the kid. They rushed everything out there, didn't get set and just kicked a hail Mary. I think he makes it if we call a time out and let him get set properly. The *only* bright spot Sunday was Grupe.

Plus, by that time he was probably exhausted.

But I'm curious if Carr was to go 22 for 22 in a game heading into his final drive.....with 4 TD passes........but the game is somehow still tied with 1:45 left.......completes 3 more passes to go 25 for 25 in an effort to get them in FG range.......only to throw an interception on his final pass, allowing the other team to get a game-winning FG instead..... and having a final stat line of 25/26 with 4 TD passes and 1 interception......would the forum be cool with just glossing over that ?

Do you truly think the majority of the forum would be like "come on guys, he played a brilliant game outside of that one pass" ?

Why we went for a FG doesn't even make sense. Should be a fireable offense there. So afraid go for it. You settle on a FG on the drive before which was really bad.

I know he hit 5, but if Bama could get an 0.o1% touchdown then we had a chance as much as dumb and dumber if grupe hit his last kick. Staying down 9 instead of 6 was finito. Not that he is bad but he is not a game winner or critical kick maker so far this year. Not enough of a salary cap save if that is the only we can score. Many here will try to blame shift and make excuses for him, but you can’t undo the past and he’s showing serious signs that he can’t be trusted in big moments.

Yah he made 5 kicks yesterday but each one of them was iffy. I was expecting him to miss the last one because that’s what he’s shown us he’ll do in that spot.
