How Much is Sean Payton Going to Use Deonte Harris as WR this Year? (1 Viewer)

I think we will see Deonte Harris a lot more on offense this year and for years to come. Being his size you have to be a tough little bugger and having the ability to return kicks which is a spot were like 11 guys are coming for your head you have to be tough.

We’ve seen small guys have success in this league. We all know Darren Sproles who was 5’6” 190ish and had a great career. Steve Smith was 5’9” 185 and had a great career. Wes Welker is another receiver that was only 5’9” 185 and he didn’t have that burning speed Harris has. Desean Jackson is taller at 5’10”, but really light in the tail around 175ish. And our own Tommylee Lewis is only 5’7” 168ish, so if he could be used in this offense than Harris can be effectively

Tyreek Hill is also small guy listed at 5’10”, but I think he’s much shorter than that. Trindon Holliday is another return guy at 5’5” 165 who had a decent career as just a returner. Tarik Cohen is only 5’6” 178 and he’s playing snaps at scat back. Jacquizz Rodgers was another small back at 5’6” and Jakeem Grant is another small return man at 5’7” for the Dolphins.

Small players have been effective in this league. It’s just can they absorb the hits and so far Harris has been able to do that. I think he can be a poor man’s Tyreek Hill or Tariq Cohen kind of weapon for the team as the 4th or 5th receiver.

They showing highlights of the Saints on NFL live as they tall to the Coach Mike Zimmer. It Takes me back to too many shattered moments in the last few years. Can this be the year that it gets done? These shortcoming seasons have been a blow to the heart. Media keep saying this is the most complete team. I hope so. Defense can stay healthy man look out. Then O line should be better. Need to shore up the middle. Cause that Vikings playoff game should have went different but I digress. Now let's see what a #2 can do to help Cant guard Mike out. I think AK goes off and is healthy to get back to form and Tay train can actually get more touches(Hmmm CSP). A lot of weapons, a lot of weapons. We shall see

You know I come to this website seeking knowledge and enlightenment. Today, I leave scratching my head.

I’ll address the elephant in the room, we all know Drew’s arm strength has declined in a big way. The Chiefs have one of the best deep passing threats in the game because Mahomes as an electric arm. Even if Harris provides a deep threat it will be more of a decoy, or if Hill is at QB

Or Jameis :geek:

Hopefully not at all, he’s the best return man in the league and an absolute weapon. Don’t want him getting hurt

Thing is, Harris can get separation, even on short and medium routes. Drew is smart enough to throw him open, and Harris has the juice to change direction and get to the ball. Once the ball is in his hands, he usually makes someone miss a tackle.

We all know that Mike Thomas is the best possession WR in the game and very possibly the best WR in the NFL. But he's not a burner. As Cook came on last year, he added another dimension to the passing game - but also not a disruptive receiver. As long as Kamara plays, we know there's not a better receiver at RB than Kamara - and up till now it doesn't sound like Kamara has plans to holdout. Sanders will be a superb addition adding smarts, great route running and some speed.

So what's missing? Not much, but in seeking the optimal offense, it would be a Tyreek Hill type player, a WR that can take it to the house on any play whether that be a WR screen, jet screen, end-around, quick slant or fly route if Brees can get him the ball far downfield. If Devonte Harris could develop a little more WR skills, it seems to me that he could provide some level of Tyreek Hill type disruption to defenses.

Do you think SP has plans to use Harris more at WR this year? If so, a little or lot? And specifically how? Thx

Yeah I think as the year goes on you will see Harris more and more involved in the offense.

It won't just be for Vertical plays either. My man has some sweet feet and a lot of potential when it comes to running routes.

Harris will be huge for this team this year. Even bigger then he was his rookie year.

I expect him to play a lot on offense this year, and I think he's going to SNAP. He's got all the tools.

Here's what I posted when you asked me about him on the other thread:

Anything is possible, but the 4 inch height difference is a huge deal. The most receiving yards in history by a WR under 5'7 (Harris is 5'6) is 2,860 yards - for an entire career. The most receiving yards in history by a WR 5'10 or under (Tyreek Hill's height) is in the tens of thousands, by a bunch of guys.

Look at these lists, there's not a precedent for guys under 5'7 doing much as WRs, where when you get into the 5'10 range, you'll see a lot of names you'll recognize:

Career Yardage Leaders - 5'7 or less
57.jpg
5'10 or less
510.jpg

There's just not a lot of history of guys that small being successful NFL WRs. It really looks like 5'9 is the smallest you can be and have a very successful NFL career as a WR. So if Harris does it at 5'6, he'll be the first in history.

Not to mention Tyreek has Olympic track athlete level physical talent. I mean that literally - he has timed runs in high school that would have placed him on Olympic podiums. Harris is fast, but I don't know if he's quite that fast.

But Harris, as far as we know, isn't a total trash can of a person, so give me Harris over Hill all day.
I would be happy if he turns into Jermaine Lewis.

He'll make a name and career for himself as a KR/PR but will receive some snaps on offense because he can provide a big play or two but he won't be a front line player/weapon

I mean that wasn't at all the elephant in the room. I think everyone here is aware that Drew's game is not and will never be like Mahomes. But if it makes you feel important to break news to us, then by all means you do you.
