IMO- our coaching staff flagrantly defied the NFL rules, but moreso the Commish.

SP is always cocky and arrogant at times. That's what makes him a great coach. Onside kick in the SB, come-on - WoW!

Because of the former player insurance and disability law suits, Goodell had to come down real hard to protect all the franchises. But a year suspension of the head coach?

SP lied to Goodell, continued the program and covered it up. How much of this simply personal for Goodell? I'm afraid, the answer is "alot." What do you think?

I heard on the radio maybe goodell punished him for the Vicodin thing with this just a little part

I think a lot is the right answer. He was clearly ****** he was lied to. Had that not been the case, I guarantee you it would be more like a 4-6 game suspension.

Schefter said this AM on ESPN that Goodell was P.O.'d that Loomis and Payton took 5 days to release a statement instead of an immediate public apology.

I am not sure the Vicodin thing was the primary, but apparently SP got away with the substance abuse stuff cause of a loophole in the contract with our Security chief at the time. You add that with SPs defiance on this Bounty issue and Goodell may have felt it was time to let SP clearly know who calls the shots in the NFL.

problem with anything less than a year suspension is it gives him time to prepare for the games after the suspension.

I also wonder if any of Goodell's punishment was to punish Brees for the whole lockout in the offseason.

Gregg Williams apologized right away and that didn't seem to help him any.

Well Goodell is expecting GW to inform on the Saints players. If he doesn't, then it will be bad for him. With his quick admission and "apology", I suspect he has already agreed in hopes of salvaging his career.

Really? And this is who the owners trust running their league? He sounds like the little girl who gets shunned by the good looking guy and wants revenge because her feelings are hurt. What an unprofessional idiot.

I agree. We may never "know" how much, but past actions indicate he doesn't take being lied to lightly, just ask Mike Vick. IIRC, he flat-out stated that if Vick had been truthful from the beginning on the dog-fighting issue, the suspension would have been lighter.

oh his apology was not only non-contrite and scripted, it threw SP and Saints directly under the bus.

And to add, I saw is statement yesterday, of apology and acceptance of punishment in which he apologized to just about everyone involved....

....except for the Saints coaches, players etc.
