If Saints Don't Serve 40-Burgers, We in Trouble... (1 Viewer)

OP is right, guys, IMO.

A winning mindset always ends with the cream rising to the top, and when it does — and this teams realizes they are it, they need to assert their dominance whenever in a position to do so.

Think of it this way; there is always a list a mile long of people who have doubted you, or wronged you. The more doubt and hate there is, the more this perfect storm keeps developing like an area of low pressure in the gulf right before the fall.

The doubt creates motivation, which creates belief, which creates camaraderie, which creates the confidence and ability to come back or jump out to a lead against any team, seemingly at will.

The winning mindset in sports is rooted in a belief that you are, in fact, currently.. or will soon be the best at what you do.

Legends like Novak Djokovic (who have mastered this mindset) know with every fiber of their soul that no one works as hard as they do, or wants it more than they do. And the hate people show towards people like this is like pure jet fuel for their work ethic and their competitive drive.

So, give the finger to as many doubters as you can (always tactfully and in a respectable way) and if we can help it, hang as many forty burgers as we can where it is advantageous to do so.

It’s all about winning, but let’s face it: an undefeated team that scores 10 points a week isn’t scaring anyone. At least not the same way a 14-win team is that is dropping 40 every other week, against any highly competentwe defenses — all while not giving an inch on D, ourselves.

One thing I’ve learned in competitive sports and being a front runner in your respective standing still surprises me to this day, but it’s true: when your opposition perceives there’s a large gap between your ability and theirs, you often won’t see their best because they convince themselves they have already lost and don’t deserve to be on the same field as you.

This psychological tendency of mediocre teams and beyond, I believe played a big part in our 13 game streak in 2009, and the handful of 6-8 game winning streaks we’ve had since.

So, im with the OP. I say forty burgers aplenty, whenever the opportunity presents itself.
You last sentence is dead on. We all want that.

I don't believe anyone on here is arguing that we would all love to see even 50-point games by the Saints every week ... but I also believe many of us understood the kind of defense we were facing against the Titans in a season opener and that dropping even a "30 burger" against that defense would have been more than remarkable. As opposed to frustrated, I was more than pleased with the effort on both sides of the ball, and especially the defense. ... I believe as true fans and supporters we have to be realistic in our expectations and realize where the Saints are at this point in time -- at that point being after WINNING the first game of the season against a good team with a great defensive effort and a great offensive drive to seal the deal ... it was the opening game ... no reason at all to get frustrated that we didn't "drop a 40 burger" or "rained bombs" on the Titans ... and it was a long pass to Shaheed that locked down the win.

It's just hard to realistically believe that SHOULD happen against a defense like the Titans. When the opportunity presents itself, you're dang right. ... This Titans' defense won't present that opportunity very often to any team, as good as their offense is. It looks like the Saints offense shows signs of getting really good, and with improved health and experience could drop "40 burgers" on some teams ... but we have to be realistic ... and a win is a win. Who Dat!

Nobody is dropping 40 every other week. In all of last year, there were only 22 40-point games out of 544 opportunities. Dallas led the way with four, and we saw what happened to them in the playoffs.

Also, during the Brees era, we had 34 40-point games over a fifteen year span, with the most being six in 2018. That's probably about as close to every other week as you'll get, and that was with a HOF QB under center.
Interesting fact that I pointed out already is that we were a run first, ball control team. In 17 and 18 time of possession was our main focus. Then we could easily put up burgers on lesser teams, but it was a byproduct of the overall philosophy, not our main focus as in 11-16.
