If Saints Don't Serve 40-Burgers, We in Trouble... (6 Viewers)

First time ever Landry was mention in track meet in a positive light….

Dude, Payton's offense was about scoring as fast as possible to run up the score. When our defense sucked we could have used some ball control offense to help the defense out, but that wasn't his style. Why give the defense rest after a 15 play drive, when I can score it 4 plays?
I'll give you that his original offense was like that, but when he became concerned about Drew's arm strength and longevity we definitely switched to a more balanced attack that was more about finishing sustained drives than the quick strike. Even before that was the main gameplan it was a big way we closed out games. The commentators used to call it our "4 minute offense" where we'd essentially take our time down the field and try to kill the game with another TD or FG if we could and if not punt with less than 2 minutes on the clock.

Anyway, I don't think anyone is disagreeing that we need more from our offense in terms of points, even the post game interviews that I've seen suggest the team feels that way. I think the main disagreement with the OP is expecting it right out of the gate. Not to mention the other teams all get paid to play too, there's a reason most NFL games don't end in blowouts. If we're still struggling to score 4-6 weeks into the season then a lot more people will be concerned.

Wow... I remember fans were excited last season about the possibility of unleashing an offense that would rain long TD passes from the stadium skies. Mike Thomas, Jarvis Landry, and Chris Olave would terrorize DBs and make every game a track meet. In the end, the Saints eventually win games feeding opponents a 40-burger along the way. Needless to say, expectations were not mirrored by reality.

This season the Saints OC is opting for ball control over "shock and awe". However, if the Saints believe they can win games without explosive plays in a high-powered offense, then this will be a long frustrating season. And even if the team makes it through a soft schedule with close wins, then the post season shapes up to be an embarrassment and disaster.

Dennis Allen might like these sluggfests where the defenses duke it out and the game is decided by one point. But whenever a Payton-Brees offense faced a 3-point margin at the end of the game, fans came to believe and expect "advantage Saints". And DA will find that the Saints running game.. the defense.. and the home-field crowd is all better when the Saints offense can serve up a 40-burger or at least establish a 2-score lead.

GO Saints...
It's too early to think about post season.

This offense showed more promise in one game than the whole time with Dalton starting.

Things are still shaping up, plus Tennessee plays a nasty defense. Those games are all about survival and intestinal fortitude. Much like the playoffs.

That game on Sunday very much resembled a playoff game.Ir was a great test of the Saints mettle.

You learn more about a team from these victories than say the Cowboys pressure free victory over the Giants. Very Seldom do games play out that easy. Dak was still mediocre at best.

they didn't call "our 4 minute offense" it's an NFL concept, the 4 minute offense that every team uses. A real ball control offense is a 15 play 10 minute drive, and winning 21 to 10.

considering that we should've had at least a extra 10 points due to bad calls by refs.. and we kneeled down at the end which couldve been a 3 or 7 depending on need.. we honestly was a 33-30 point game.

so 26 if refs call the game right
and 3 to 7 if we had to score again at the end.

Our defense and offense is good enough to beat teams with judgement calls against us now.. thats week 1..
Id like to see beyond week 1.. and I would like to see Kamara red zone
and Id most certainly like to see not going against the best defensive line in the league.

Our defense is top 5 and our offense will be top 10 by mid season.

BARRING INJURIES

Thing is it’s the first game of the season. First games, especially with the newer shortened training camps, means that defense and a closer to the belt offense will win the first 2-3 games. Then your offensive passing attacks get into synch and when scoring has a tendency to go up. Right now timing isn’t great, the flow of how a game goes is still forming and all that. We won. Carr looks good. Enjoy it

You can't make a demand of how much should be scored, passes for, rushed for or what particular player or coach career is on the line for said game.
Exactly, every game is fluid, based on thousands of different variables, The one thing I think we can be sure of is that once we get AK and Miller back, plus more experience with the offensive line playing together, we've got a chance, barring injuries, to be the best offense in the league.

OP shows this mindset and wants people to sign in and read his SR blog? … 🤣🤣🤣 … no thanks. … BTW, when it become “the thing” to post ridiculousness on SR just to get reactions, negative or not?

Plain false from 2017-2021

It’s 2023 and Saints fan still can’t adjust their mindset to accept the fact this is a defensive team now?

It’s no wonder our star players don’t get the respect they deserve if our own fans can’t even see it.

Even Trent Dilfer knew he only had to score 17 points on offense and he was going to win a SB, I wonder if there were posts on the Ravens message boards in 2000 saying they need to score 40 points.

(NB - I’m not saying this defense is at that level but they’re still very good!)

OP is right, guys, IMO.

A winning mindset always ends with the cream rising to the top, and when it does — they need to assert their dominance whenever in a position to do so.

Think of it this way; there is always a list a mile long of people who have doubted you, or wronged you. The more doubt and hate there is, the more this perfect storm keeps developing like an area of low pressure in the gulf right before the fall.

The doubt creates motivation, which creates belief, which creates camaraderie, which creates the confidence and ability to come back or jump out to a lead against any team, seemingly at will.

The winning mindset in sports is rooted in a belief that you are, in fact, currently.. or will soon be the best at what you do.

Legends like Novak Djokovic (who have mastered this mindset) know with every fiber of their soul that no one works as hard as they do, or wants it more than they do. And the hate people show towards people like this is like pure jet fuel for their work ethic and their competitive drive.

So, give the finger to as many doubters as you can (always tactfully and in a respectable way) and if we can help it, hang as many forty burgers as we can where it is advantageous to do so.

It’s all about winning, but let’s face it: an undefeated team that scores 10 points a week isn’t scaring anyone. At least not the same way a 14-win team is that is dropping 40 every other week, against any highly competent defenses — all while not giving an inch on D, ourselves.

One thing I’ve learned in competitive sports and being a front runner in your respective standing still surprises me to this day, but it’s true: when your opposition perceives there’s a large gap between your ability and theirs, you often won’t see their best because they convince themselves they have already lost and don’t deserve to be on the same field as you.

This psychological tendency of mediocre teams and beyond, I believe played a big part in our 13 game streak in 2009, and the handful of 6-8 game winning streaks we’ve had since.

So, im with the OP. I say forty burgers aplenty, whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Nobody is dropping 40 every other week. In all of last year, there were only 22 40-point games out of 544 opportunities. Dallas led the way with four, and we saw what happened to them in the playoffs.

Also, during the Brees era, we had 34 40-point games over a fifteen year span, with the most being six in 2018. That's probably about as close to every other week as you'll get, and that was with a HOF QB under center.
