Ironman 3 (Extremis) (1 Viewer)

I don't think the suit that wakes Pepper Potts is jacked. I think it's War Machine. Of course even a friendly one of those would scare the **** out of you, especially if you're curled up next to the OG Ironman.
It definitely looks like the new armor, though. Considering Tony mentions nightmares and fears of not being able to protect Pepper, I'm guessing it's a dream sequence.

For anyone wondering about the red/white/blue armor, it's been pretty much confirmed as a War Machine redesign. The design comes from the Iron Patriot armor used by Norman Osborne/Green Goblin when he tricked his way into being in charge of a new version of S.H.I.E.L.D. called H.A.M.M.E.R., and there's no chance it's him. There were some early set pics of the armor with a guy inside that looked like James Badge Dale who plays Eric Slavin/Coldblood, but it was confirmed as a stuntman and Dale was filming another movie at the time.

The real head-scratcher is Mandarin's tattoo:

It's Captain America's shield with an anarchist 'A' symbol in the center instead of the star. I suspect this version of Mandarin will have past ties to SHIELD and/or the Super Soldier Program.

I never watched Extremis but doesn't it have to do with being able to control machines with your mind? Stark mentions nightmares. Maybe while he's dreaming the suit starts to move and act out what he's dreaming about?

Just a crazy guess. I have nothing to back that up.

Question:

Does this supposedly take place AFTER the events in The Avengers? Or are they just sticking with the threadline of IM1 and IM2?

It involves a nanotechnology being stolen that basically makes people cyborgs, killing machines. Stark had it altered to malke him one with his suit because he wasn't fast or strong enough to defeat the villain who had used the stolen tech.Since he's mentioned nightmares, I wondered the same thing, if he wasn't controlling the suit in a dream.

In the trailer when Tony says, "Nothing's been the same since New York," he's talking about what transpired in The Avengers movie, so yes... as expected, this takes place after the events in The Avengers.

Big budget Hollywood films must always feature the obligatory former military-turned-terrorist psy-op.....IM was always my fav Marvel character though....

Yeah, the storyline falls like this for the Marvel movies I believe...

Iron Man > The Incredible Hulk > Iron Man 2 > Thor > Captain America: The First Avenger > The Avengers > Iron Man 3* > Thor: The Dark World*

Then there's supposed to be another Captain America, another Hulk, and another Avengers movie; unsure on the ordering though. :9:

* denotes unreleased also.

Nano-technology and/or a dream sequence make the most sense, but consider the possibility of Life Model Decoy as well. I'm imagining that at some point this concept is going to be introduced into the Avenger related film series (still guessing this will be the way Agent Coulson will be re-introduced into the timeline), and this could be what's happening in that scene.

...though I find the idea of Tony controlling the suit in his sleep much more intriguing.

I don't think another Hulk is planned but another Captain America is definite.

Part of Tony's new personal dilemma is him fighting other whether the suit defines him or does he define the suit.

He's said that he and Iron man are one, but which one is the dominant part? Obviouslhy the answer is they're two parts of the same whole. And the whole is greater than either sum of its parts and all that.

...or it could be a ploy from The Mandarin to sabotage the newest iteration of the armor via nanotech.
