It definitely looks like the new armor, though. Considering Tony mentions nightmares and fears of not being able to protect Pepper, I'm guessing it's a dream sequence.I don't think the suit that wakes Pepper Potts is jacked. I think it's War Machine. Of course even a friendly one of those would scare the **** out of you, especially if you're curled up next to the OG Ironman.
Jeeeeeeeeeeesus!

I never watched Extremis but doesn't it have to do with being able to control machines with your mind? Stark mentions nightmares. Maybe while he's dreaming the suit starts to move and act out what he's dreaming about?
Just a crazy guess. I have nothing to back that up.
Question:
Does this supposedly take place AFTER the events in The Avengers? Or are they just sticking with the threadline of IM1 and IM2?

For anyone wondering about the red/white/blue armor, it's been pretty much confirmed as a War Machine redesign. The design comes from the Iron Patriot armor used by Norman Osborne/Green Goblin when he tricked his way into being in charge of a new version of S.H.I.E.L.D. called H.A.M.M.E.R., and there's no chance it's him. There were some early set pics of the armor with a guy inside that looked like James Badge Dale who plays Eric Slavin/Coldblood, but it was confirmed as a stuntman and Dale was filming another movie at the time.
The real head-scratcher is Mandarin's tattoo:
It's Captain America's shield with an anarchist 'A' symbol in the center instead of the star. I suspect this version of Mandarin will have past ties to SHIELD and/or the Super Soldier Program.

Yeah, the storyline falls like this for the Marvel movies I believe...
Iron Man > The Incredible Hulk > Iron Man 2 > Thor > Captain America: The First Avenger > The Avengers > Iron Man 3* > Thor: The Dark World*
Then there's supposed to be another Captain Anerica, another Hulk, and another Avengers movie; unsure on the ordering though.
* denotes unreleased also.
I don't think another Hulk is planned but another Captain America is definite.
