Is Kellen Moore not impressed with Rattler? (2 Viewers)

Ratters a 5th round undersized under performing prospect that was picked by another coaching staff. He’d be committing career suicide if he hitched is wagon to that.
Undersized? Yeah but let's be honest, nobody would be successful in the situation that him and Haener were thrown in last season. I have zero issues with CKM covering all bases but he would be a fool of a coach to hold last season against them; I doubt that's the case.

If Drew Brees was 33 and had Rattler and Haener behind him, we wouldn't be looking for a new QB until he was 40. The fact that it seems like we're all in scouting QB prospects in the draft, tells me how they genuinely feel about DC4. If one recalls, there was never a huge buzz come draft time about QB prospects in Drew Brees' prime. (they didn't even look at QB prospects as to not offend Drew). They sure aren't worried about Dc4's feelings. So it seems that they are settled for 2025, but 2026 and beyond is new QB1 territory.
The teams failure to look for a replacement was a mistake. Maybe Loomis learned from this.

So both Heaner and Rattler should be given a chance to compete for a roster spot next season, but neither should be relied on as a viable backup.

The million dollar question is how would Jayden Daniels have performed in the exact scenerio Rattler was in?
Of course much better. This is not a fair question, JD legit top tier starter vs hopeful number 2.

Rattler Derangement Syndrome is real.

Every time he touched the football field last year, we lost. He touched the field 7 times. We lost 7 times. 0-7.

He didnt touch the field 10 times. We were 5-5.

He didnt make anyone better. He didnt overcome the situation. He did get excuses though.

Unless I missed an important bit of news, I’m going to wait until everything has played out at the position over the offseason.

I would think if there was going to be an open QB competition in TC they would have announced it already? Maybe not, I hope I'm wrong, but there has been very little about Rattler since CKM was hired.....at a minimum, at this point it seems they are content with Carr as our starter in 2025, maybe that changes, we will see....

What is this post? LOL

Rattler will be on the roster and will compete for the top position on the depth chart. I don't think he'll win it, but looking to add another young QB says zero about Rattler or his future prospects other than he isn't a proven quality starter at this point.

See above, also I would think that if they intended for Rattler to compete for the starting job there would be more talk about him, unless I've missed something I haven't heard the new coaching staff say much about him.....maybe that changes, we will see....

My expectation is that Carr will be the starter but there are clearly some signals that the team is weighing options at the position, so there is some degree of uncertainty.

But more than that, Moore hasn’t even had a chance to implement his system and see these guys practice. Rattler will almost certainly be one of 3 or 4 players who will have a chance to make an impression on the staff and it’s up to all of them to make the most of that opportunity. I’m not making predictions or making more out of the situation than that.

I hear you, this is a reasonable/rational take.....

My feeling (and it's just my belief) is they are looking to draft the QB of the future either this year or next....Of course, I could be wrong....I just don't think Rattler will ever be that guy....

The fact they're looking in such an obviously diligent manner tells us how they CURRENTLY view Rattler (and Haener). We can hope Rattler plays himself into the equation, but as of NOW, the new staff isn't sold on his potential. I'm fine with that. Best case scenario, we develop 2 QBs with starting skillsets and one becomes a quite valuable trade asset. Anyone have a problem with that dilemma? I pray for that outcome!

I would say a lot better , JD is a better runner, a better passer , has better touch, better vision. better mechanics
You also have to consider Rattler and No receivers. WRs were in the game, that he never threw a pass to. Like early on at LSU, when the Oline collapsed, Jayden was the best QB, because he turned disaster into success with his legs. And once JD got dialed into his WRs, in his second year, (because that’s what he worked on, downfield attacking), he was lights out. So with that said, I think JD4 plays better than Rattler, due to his legs only. I still believe Rattler, and it would be unfair to blow him up, and not really consider what he had to deal with.

Although there are indications that no QB competition will take place, it will happen in OTAs and Training Camp. Seems likely that Rattler will benefit from the snaps he took in the last few games. He has actual game experience, unlike his status last year. The situation will inevitably play out, whether there’s any press about it or not.

Pocket presence and touch cannot necessarily be coached. Rattler lacks both.
Pocket presence? Rattler is like “what is this pocket thingy you speak of?”.

Think about it, he went from that terrible line at SC to that depleted debacle of a line with the Saints. I’d be surprised if he had any trust in linemen at all. 😁

It will be interesting to see what we really have in him with competent coaching and players around him. There’s still a chance that we got that 5th-round-steal due to the caliber of QBs and six going in the first dozen picks.
