Is Kellen Moore not impressed with Rattler? (3 Viewers)

What I'm saying is I don't believe last season should be held against any of them considering how crappy the situation was.

6 of the 7 times Rattler touched the football field, we were going against playoff teams with no less than 10 wins. Our 5 wins came against teams with a combined record of 26-59. There is no quarterback in the NFL that's overcoming the situation last season. Again, it would be foolish for anyone to hold the 2024 season against them. I'm hoping that there is serious sarcasm behind this because this is about as bad a view as any.
I think the most accurate thing I can say about Rattler is the jury is still out. There are some things I saw I liked and quite a few that were red flags. I think the worst thing we could do for him is to throw him back into the fire. I think he needs to build his foundation, to break him of his bad footwork and work more on touch. If he wins the QB2 job, fine he can build his foundation from there.

I don't want us to draft a QB at all in this draft and especially not in the 1st. The only QB I think that has a 1st rd grade is Ward and to be honest I don't think he rates the #1 pick.
I'd rather we bring in a cheap vet QB and let him , Rat and Jake battle it out for 2 and 3. Then we draft a QB next yr , the QB class looks to be much better next yr . Plus with 6 QBs drafted in the 1st rd in 24 and more than likely 2 drafted high this yr the teams looking to draft a QB next yr will be pretty low so we'll have a much better chance of getting our guy

I’m not holding anything against Rattler. I think since we have both Heaner and Rattler on the team they should have an open competition for the backup positions. I think one will make the team as the third string qb. Who it will be between Heaner and Rattler is anyone’s guess. Hopefully, we’ll have a strong backup to Carr who is t on the current roster.

I don’t think there is a can’t miss QB in this draft. I don’t think Ward is really the guy either. But then again Brees was a second round pick, Brady a 6, Romo was undrafted, so it’s not like you can’t find that person somewhere if you find the right guy, right place, right coach. Just have to do due diligence. I’m not 100 percent impressed with any QB on this roster either. Carr is the upper average end of QB. Rattler had some things, but also wasn’t completely impressed either. Haener I used to think had potential, but after stepping in last year, that’s not the case. So, find the guy you like and see if he can at least outplay one of them this year.

The above is JDs first year at LSU. Easily comparable to Rattler.

What am I missing here? How does JD's 1st year at LSU have anything to do with Rattler right now?

Because JD5 was FAR from spectacular in the air. What saved him was his 710 yards on the ground. However, the following year, he became the most dangerous weapon we’ve seen at QB in years. The original question was, how would JD do on a trash team his first year. I didn’t think JD5 first year at the Commanders was a fair comparison to what Rattler experienced. Rattler was throwing to people he met in the parking lot an hour before the game. And Rattlers Oline was trashed. I agree it’s not an apples to apples comparison

I lived in MD for 30 + years and watched the Commanders.....a lot....they have never had a good offensive line and last year's wasn't that great either.....without JD5 that team is below .500......they were 4-13 the year before with many of the same players on offense....

They were healthier no doubt and I agree that it is impossible to have a meaningful evaluation of Rattler because of the circumstances last year.....but I think any attempt to compare Rattler with JD5 is just....foolish....

You’re probably right. But how else do we fairly evaluate Rattler?

The same way any other team does when their starter doesn’t get hurt…training camp, joint practices, preseason games, in season practices.

In no way shape or form am I comparing these to Rattler, but how did Chiefs or Packers know Mahomes or Love was really the guy before starting them?

Love sat on the bench for what? 3 or 4 years? lol. Gotta love the patience both Love and the Packers demonstrated there. Really is impressive. Humility completely won out on Love's part.

Our new coach is an experienced qb coach and knows the qualities that a starting caliber qb needs to succeed, I have faith he’ll find us a good young prospect, he seems to being doing his due diligence right now.

Right and think about that. Drafted in 2020 wasn’t full time starter until 2023. Started a single game between 2020 and 2023 and didn’t look that good in that game as well. Props to that coaching staff for seeing it and to Love for not growing frustrated.

I mean, it's not up to us.....right now I'm going to trust CKM's evaluation and the only thing I can say with certainty right now is thus far Rattler has not impressed him enough to name him the starter, I guess the question is will there be an open competition for the QB position in TC? I would think they would have announced it if there were going to be by now.....

The other variable is how Rattler performs in TC, maybe that changes CKM's mind? Not a lot to go on at this point to know where Rattler really stands....

B.S. JD5 has shown progression each year. He also has certain intangibles that Rattler simply doesn’t possess. Not many people (even vets) are doing wha JD5 is doing on the field.
