Jackson, Ms is jacked up (Merged) (6 Viewers)

I think 3 lawsuits so far have been filed, with the EPA involved government officials are open game, like Flynt, MI if the governor or governors are to blame they will be charged. I did read where the former mayor (Yarber) tried to declare a state of emergency for the state to come in but the city council struck him down, so perhaps all of the bafoonery will catch up with all those involved.
Yes, the city council struck it down because they were unable to get state support in any way. If you would like it from the horse's mouth.

Check this one out. Reeves claims the State gave Jackson $200M but bank records show they only actually gave them $480k and forgave a $1.5M loan. Like, no sheet, you can' t make this stuff up. The state of Ms literally gave 2.5 times more money to Brett Favre to build his daughter's volleyball team a new gym than they did the state's capital city.

Good more ammo for the EPA.

...And the rest of the story:
According to the letter, Oversight Committee staff learned in a briefing with Jackson officials that the state attempted to limit funding to Jackson for its water system. The state allegedly planned to "bar communities of more than 4,000 people from competing for additional funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law," the letter says.

In their letter, Thompson and Maloney also referenced reporting by the AP that Reeves had a hand in delaying funds for water system repairs in Jackson and claimed to have blocked funds. Reeves' office did not immediately respond to AP's request for comment on the letter.

...And the rest of the story:

Misinformation in that article, flooding was not the issue, there were no flood waters close to those plants, the water plant was neglected for years with little maintenance. Article also failed to mention how Thompson himself said he would not help unless he seen a plan. It will be interesting though to see how the money was allocated. I’m sure it will be years before all the truth comes out through the various suits in court.

Mayor’s response:

One big poop show, neither are the most honest person to be able to believe.

IDK man, I don't see an issue with the mayor wanting those jobs for his city. It's not even close to the same as the 4k proposal. If that water system is in such trouble, I suspect other areas are as well. That money could go a lot further than just the water and frankly should.

Ms. doesn't need more funding diverted to rich peoples pet projects.

While its true that their water system has been failing, it is also true that the current Mayor has been trying to address its issues and had been asking for state assistance.
Trying to tie money for basic infrastructure to giving up an asset (that probably brings income to the city) is slimy at best.
A related story…
As for the "misinformation" claim, the following is from the CBS article:
Jackson has had water problems for years, and the latest troubles began in late August after heavy rainfall exacerbated problems in the city's main treatment plant, leaving many customers without running water. Jackson had already been under a boil-water notice since late July because the state health department found cloudy water that could make people ill.
There's no mention of flooding!

Besides, if the Governor had issues with what they are reporting, he should have taken their call. Instead, he attempted to get in front of the story by throwing the Mayor under the bus because of reasons.

I get it and would agree but he failed to do that very same thing by maintaining the operational maintenance of the plant.

You do see the challenges tho right? Do you think it was completely gross mismgmt? The controlling state powers there literally stole money from starving people via a charity scam and built a volleyball court. What else were they doing?

My bad, I did get that wrong regarding the article, my mind manipulated me :) with heavy rains statement along with the mayor‘s statement in the past claiming it was “flooding” (non article related).

Challenges, yes. Gross mismanagement, IMO yes. There are a number of political activist in the city within the same political party that would say so also.

What else were they doing? The current governor had a personal trainer costing several hundred thousand, coming out that same TANF fund and nothing happened. Evidently the state wrote enough loopholes to legally steal. It’s MississippI, bass backwards state that could use a genuine good honest person that can separate themselves from good ol boy politics, dunno if that will happen in my lifetime.
