Jameis Winston’s contract becomes a $107m deal on March 16th trigger date (1 Viewer)

Calm down. The drama really isn't necessary. I didn't say he would be back. All I said is that this provision in his contract doesn't make it impossible for him to come back which is what you claimed. I think it's highly unlikely that he will be back and I thought that long before the Atlanta game. But, I thought the same thing last year and he ended up coming back so it's not totally outside of the realm of possibility. If Haener isn't ready to be the #2 QB and they don't draft a QB this year then they are going to have to sign a vet #2. Could it be someone other than Winston? Absolutely. But, it could be Winston.
It absolutely resides in the teams of possibility that it could happen. No disagreement there.

But we all know he's gone and the misreading of a standard cap move as some kind of chance at keeping him around (even Underhill tried to line it up) was blushingly naive.

According to Spotrac, his cap hits are 4.5m in 24, 7.3m in 25, 0 after that. A pre June 1st release would result in dead cap of 10.6m in 24, 7.3m in 25, 3.9m in 26, and 567k in 27. Post June 1st release would be 3.36m in 24,25, and 26. And 567k in 27. I’m no cap wiz, just relaying what that site is saying.
Future cap hits usually get accelerated when a player is no longer on the team, either in the same league year or split between two league years.

Before we reworked Winston's contract, we were going to have the full $10.7m cap hit from his dead money.

After reworking it, our options are:

Release - same outcome as before, $10.7m cap hit

Release w/ June 1 designation - we would have a $3.4m cap hit in 2024 and a $7.3m cap hit in 2025

A key point on the June 1 designation is that we don't realize the cap savings until after June 1. However, by having him under contract to start the 2024 league year, we likely have a lower than $10.7m cap hit (probably $4.6m) that we will need to carry until June 1, so we save $6.1m from the new deal and an additional $1.2m after June 1 passes.

I assume that on March 15, Mickey Loomis is going to hand the paperwork necessary to cut Jameis to an intern together with instructions to fax it to the league office.

That intern is going to have a choice to send the paperwork, or to do something else that would be very funny.
JW gone have his bois intercept that intern. Then he gets that bag.

When you get known for doing a thing....
When you get “known” for doing all things.

I am pretty sure he was one of the Whitehouse plumbers and made all those bad loans that caused the housing market to collapse in 2008. And:

Ruined Taysom’s chance to be starting QB.

Made Sean quit.

Made Dalton so blah.

Turned the team against Carr.

Leaked the Gruden emails.

Sent Rob Kraft to that massage place in Tampa.

Sabotaged Russell Wilson in Denver.

Introduced Aaron Rodgers to Q-Anon.

Made Gayle promise to never fire Mickey.

To be honest, I was just giving you another chance to get the Stans together for another ritual song and dance around the campfire at Lake Winniekaka, giving us all our favourite lines about 'poor Jameis'.

And lo, it came to pass...
