Jared Goff and the Lions agree to 4 year $212M extension. (1 Viewer)

The 170M guaranteed is a real commitment. That's 42.5M/yr over 4yrs with an AAV of 53M. Maybe they guaranteed his 2024 salary. That would make the headline pop while giving them an out after 2027.

After the way he answered a question about the no call, he can go eat a big bag of D
This. Whole lot of arrogance from a system QB who's been carried by two very good coaches his entire career.

Dumb contact by the Lions all the same. One year of good play doesn't deserve a contract like this, and it'll probably show this year. Doubt he makes it two years into that contract, at least without a huge restructure.

Well deserved.

Good coaching is the common denominator between every successful QB in the NFL today, and technically, most are system QBs.

53 millions ?
PER YEAR ???!!?

it's way too much
When you think about it, he went to a team that won 5 games before he got there and 3 his first season. After 2 seasons, they won their division and were a possession away from a trip to the Super Bowl. He's done more to help turn around a team than most who are getting paid (and rated higher) than him. I think it's too much period, no matter the player, but with others are getting, I think it is deserved.

When was the last time Dak took a moribund franchise to the NFC Championship Game? The Lions have more NFCCG appearances than the Cowboys this century. That...is hilarious.
The person most responsible for this continuous, hilarious yearly conundrum where Dallas either doesn't make the playoffs, or loses in the WC or Divisional Round is a man who's bloated ego, vanity and malignant narcissism are so huge, most DFW-area, Cowboys fans nickname the billion-dollar stadium after him. Like, its somehow his perverse, heartbreaking sports carnival show all under one roof.

It's also very telling that every other DFW-area sports team (Rangers, Stars and Mavericks) have all made deep playoff runs, appeared in or won multiple World Series, Stanley Cups, and NBA Finals over the past 30 years while the Cowboys can't get past their own proverbial firewall: The NFC Divisional Round.

If he'd had a smarter, less risk-verse HC who didnt take a few too many unnecessary chances in the NFCCG vs. 49ers, the Lions conceivably couldve advanced to play in their first Super Bowl in franchise history. IMHO, they played at a very competitive level to win the game besides the fact that Kyle Shanahan clearly outmanuevered and out-coached Campbell in the second half.

I do hope that Campbell maybe learns some impulse-control in big, critical moments in important games or later playoff games.

I believe that Campbell probably came away smarter from that when he realized how close they really were from getting to the Super Bowl. They've drafted well too, so they are in a great place, player wise. The Rams got a Super Bowl out the deal but we can't act like those 1 year rentals weren't a part of that team. Even with Stafford healthy, the Lions are an overall better team and Ben Johnson is coaching his butt off..lol

But I thought the Lions got fleeced on that trade?? Funny what a couple of seasons can do.

One of those rare times where both teams got what they wanted and hoped for out of a trade. The Rams got their ring and the Lions are set up to be contenders in the NFC for a half-decade.

I think Goff is solid, but I think when Ben Johnson leaves, the Lions are in for a rude awakening.

Doesn’t hurt to have Laporta, St Brown, Gibbs, and the top o line. The team is stacked. Have to give a lot of the credit to the GM in this case.
Crazy thing, before Laporta and Gibbs, they went from 3 to 9 wins, St. Brown was a part of the 3 win 2021 season, and majority of their O-line last season was from the Caldwell/Patricia years. The GM built well but coaching was the difference maker.
