Jarvis Landry visiting Saints tomorrow (2 Viewers)

The problem with recruitment is that this is a low volume passing offense. Winston had training wheels on last year and completed 15 passes per game. If Thomas averages 7-8 catches per game, how much will be left? I’m sure the Saints will pass more, but I doubt the Saints deviate away from focusing on efficiency. If Landry is looking to put up big numbers for a better contract, his chances will probably be limited here.

Yea, who wants to play for a QB who averaged 2 passing TDs a game, before he got hurt. Sean called a very balanced offense the first 5 games of the season, for a variety of reasons (o line play). There is nothing in print, that Sean was moderating Jamies's passing. This is something we fans came up with. There was no learning curve for Jamies, he was productive (where it counts) from the get go! Training wheels? 14 passing TDs, a 5 TD game (GB), a 4 TD (Washington).

Jamies is going to beat teams in our division, like they owe us money! We are going to throw the ball around. Other than going for it on every 4 th down like Sean. Not much is going change in the offense and player personnel. Everybody, right down to the water boy, will have to be able to catch the ball. We are not going to waste all the money we have tied up in pass blocking O linemen, Pete as OC, Doug as O line coach, Winston as QB. All that spells passing game.

I don't see any movement for Landry til the draft concludes. Some teams may overpay for his services if their drafts don't hit on needs

I mean, there is movement for Landry right now. That's why he is visiting and reports are that it's between us and Cleveland at this point. Might not happen now, but it could easily happen before the draft and if I'm the Saints, I want it done before the draft to open up options in the draft.

I don't remember if was Nick or someone else that mentioned some of the conservative stuff was on Jameis. There were times when he moved off a risky throw and went for something safe (I don't blame him with the WRs we had last year). I do think just when things were starting to click between him and coaches is when he got hurt. Hopefully, he can find the middle ground between the gunslinger and smart football.

Maybe he will wait. I just think from the Saints perspective, it would be better to know now rather than after the draft. If they don't know they have Landry, they almost have to take at WR at #16 just in case one they like doesn't drop to 19 or 49. If they had Landry they would have more flexibility.

Underhill indicated this was not just a come and get to know the Saints like it was with Mathieu, but maybe things changed or maybe he still wants too much money from teams. Hopefully one of the local guys gets some news soon.

I may be off base, but it seems like we are trying to sure up some spots, but are hoping that certain players would go for the “hometown discount” (Jarvis and Tyrann). Heck, if you nab one at the discount, maybe the other would help recruit the other?

Does the hometown discount really exist anywhere anymore? The only thing close to it I have seen in reality has been the "take less money to play for a contender."

If anyone would take a hometown discount, Tyrann's public campaign to come home would be the ideal place to do it -- and he hasn't, at least yet.

The NFL is a business. The Saints got in the Jarvis and Tyrann conversation only when the players' reported inflated salary demands became obviously too expensive for the free agency market they actually had.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think the Saints have opened the door because the price must have gone down into something much closer to the vicinity of what they are willing to pay, and it has nothing to do with the hometown or how they feel about the players changing or the team's strategy changing.

Sure 6,7 mill a year rental for Jarvis. But, is he willing to play for that?

I don't think there's a chance in hell he's taking anything lower than an 8-figure annual deal. If expectations are for salary that low, if the Saints sign him my guess is some people will go apoplectic when they see the actual numbers.

It does exist to an extent. It’s becoming more and more rare by the day. Even the ones that do, rarely get publicized bc the big contract signings are the ones that catches the main headlines. Everything else are just footnotes. I only said we “could” be trying to sell them on a hometown discount is bc we are trying to be “cheap” or “fugal” with what money we have left. If we were not being cheap, then I’m sure we would’ve signed at least Tyrann at this point. There’s nothing wrong with trying every angle imaginable. No harm at all. Both of those players are very prideful about the state of Louisiana, so you never know if either one of them would be willing to sign for the home team.

I'm going to just leave this here......
2021

Jarvis Landry : 570yds 2 TDS 87 targets (4.7) speed

Marquez Calloway : 698yds 6 TDS 83 targets (4.5) speed. Played WR1 most of the yr w/ 4 different QBs.
Ding Ding Ding!!

This is why if he signs here it wont be a big contract at all. The production that comes from slants, comebacks and shallow crosses is not what you pay big money for. I would love to have him because of his veteran presence, but only for a great deal.
