Jarvis Landry visiting Saints tomorrow (1 Viewer)

Here we go again. Winston was 5-2 as a game manager last season - if he doesnt get hurt, we are likely in the playoffs with a game manager at QB. Youre confusing no risk it no biscuit with a coach calling plays in a very methodical way. He may have been made to be a gunslinger through expectations in college and in TB, and maybe he leans that way, but you cant call a guy who absolutely managed games to the tune of a 5-2 record incapable of managing games.

Payton ran the offense in a way that took into account there were very few options on the field. The same way he managed Brees once he lost the vertical passing game. Brees was absolutely a game manager his last 2 years. You cant really say "if they dont open up the offense" and then explain why we didnt in the same post.

I dont think anyone in history outside of Les Miles has ever said, we dont want an explosive offense. Youre acting like its a choice they made, as if they had these weapons that they just didnt want to use. They have played the game based on the skills of the personnel on the field. Last year, that just wasnt much.

Here we go again, people reading what they wanted to instead of what I wrote. I'm the one saying that they don't want a conservative offense and the plan had to be to get more weapons so they can open up the offense. How you got the above from what I wrote is beyond me.

I just said that the way the offense was run so conservatively was a result of lack of options at WR and a bad OL. I think Winston can be Teddy Bridgewater to some extent, but it is not the best use of his talents and it's not what he is best at. Winston was actually a much better QB most of his years in TB than he was with us last year. His QB rating was a mirage created by an overly conservative offense. He can be and is much better than that but they need to get him weapons for him to be that. And that's true of any QB really. So, if what they really want to do is play very conservative offense, and I don't think it is what they want to do, then they need to go get a game manager QB like Mac Jones.

And the point is that they need to get Winston some weapons and an OL so that they CAN open up the offense.

I don't think we need to pass as much but adding a healthy MT and getting another solid options at WR2 will open up everything. Defences won't be able to stack the box as much, they won't be able to double Thomas as much and if we can land someone who can stretch the field at the draft, it will completely change our entire offense. For all the knocks Winston is getting, one thing he can do and Drew couldn't do at the later stage of his career, is throw the ball down the field.

Having 2 great route runners + a deep threat would also be Kamara's dream scenario because it would leave him 1Vs1 against linebackers more often then not and that's music to his ears because there's not a lot of MLB's that can hang with Kamara, if any.
I see the benefit to the Saints…I guess that I just see less of a benefit to Landry. The Browns for example will probably be able to match salary, offer higher passing volume, and has about the same opportunity for success as the Saints this year.

Assuming the money is close, I think it will depend on what Landry wants at this point in his career. Does he like it in Cleveland? Does he want to move closer to where he grew up in Convent and play for the team he likely grew up as a fan of? Does he care that much about volume? Does he just want to go wherever they offer him the most money?

Even if Laundry signs here, Saints better draft a WR in the first. JL is a stop gap WR at best

He's a completely different type of receiver than the ones we should be looking at in the first round.

Actually he's the perfect compliment to Olave/Williams and Thomas. Thomas is the true #1, Landry is your get open and move the chains on 3rd down and then a rookie field stretcher that can take advantage of Winston's arm. Combine that with a fix at left tackle and you're looking at an offense that has some juice.

Landry may not come down to the Saints number.

If Saints want a cheap veteran slot weapon. The only other option is TY Hilton. The age is kind of brutal for him.

I hope they can get something done.

It's not about adding a mid tier WR, it's about the fact that we don't really have a WR that can play in the slot other than MT who plays it as a big slot. Giving MT the freedom to do other things would make him even more effective and allow guys like Calloway and TQS to fill the roles that they are best at. In addition, we are currently one more MT injury away from having Calloway as our #1 WR again which is something the team really can't let happen. He's not that guy.
Lets be honest. We can’t expect to just draft one WR and expect everything to be ok. We need a vet WR and draft another. That way, it gives you flexibility in the draft and hopefully that WR you draft is a stud, that could weather the storm of an injury happening.

I don't disagree. Landry doesn't solve all our WR issues, but he would help and would allow the team more flexibility regarding when they address WR in the draft.

I may be off base, but it seems like we are trying to sure up some spots, but are hoping that certain players would go for the “hometown discount” (Jarvis and Tyrann). Heck, if you nab one at the discount, maybe the other would help recruit the other?

Anyway, like I said, if the plan is to go more conservative, and I don't think it is based on what DA has said, then Winston isn't really the QB to do that with.

I think we are conflating the argument here a bit....I want offensive balance because our best teams over the years have had it....so I don't think conservative is the right word here.....

Totally agree with above but unless we can get him to come way down on contract demands it is probably not happening....

Rappaport reporting that it’s down to the Saints and Browns in the “Landry Sweepstakes” and that he believes the Saints are most likely doing due diligence.

We all know that any time it gets down to 2 teams, and the Saints are one of them… that the player always goes somewhere besides New Orleans.

This sounds like the Saints were at an auction and while scratching their nose they inadvertently made a bid. "Oh no, sorry! We're just here for the h'ordeuvres."

Amen to that. 😂😂😂

I get that but he'll be in a much tougher division/conference. If he joins the Saints, the road to the SB will much easier for us compared to Cleveland, so that might be something he considers if he can get relatively the same deal from both teams.

I'm just playing devils advocate here lol
