Jeff Duncan on Sean Payton 2023 (4 Viewers)

Yes, I'd have to imagine he'd be out the door. Imagine if any of us were promoted to manager/director or President of a company.. just to have the former holder of that title come back a year later, and you go back down a level. Most of us would just leave for another job, or get fired first.
I tend to agree. And maybe a fresh face at DC and OC wouldn't be a bad thing. I could see Payton coming in and revamping the staff. I'd be all for it if he wants to do that. It all starts at the top. We need a HC, and Payton is the best available. And we wouldn't need to go through the coaching search carousel because he's already under contract.

I guess the question is would be whether Payton actually wants to come back or be traded. Those are his only 2 options. I suppose he could stay retired, but I'd be surprised at that.

I haven’t seen Allen’s contract terms mentioned during the Payton discussion or really since he’s been hired. It should be easy to move on from him for Payton’s return or another new HC if he doesn’t have large $ guarantees or length guarantees.

I do wonder if Allen’s contract terms had any language that indicated it was just temporary or placeholder contingent upon if Sean Payton wanted to return since Payton is still under contract himself. As of now it looks like Loomis hired Allen just in case Payton may return and a lot of guarantees wouldn’t be invested in Allen, compared to if a coach from another team was hired as HC while Payton’s still under contract.

Then again those comments about trading for Taysom were made back in October when it looked like the team was trying to form an identity under DA and finding a way to gel and compete at the beginning of the season, while Payton was creating his own lane in the media as an analyst. It’s December now with the team’s fate practically sealed and Duncan tweets that there’s some chance he might come back. Anything can happen going forward based on how the FO and Payton feels.
You're missing the point, he was already assuming he would hypothetically the head coach for a different team and he would trade for him. Coming back to coach us isn't even a option it seems like. I'd love for him to return but I just don't see it. I'd love to be wrong.

Just the other day, I was legit gonna ask about the possibility of Payton returning but everyone seemed to think it was a fortune conclusion that it was impossible. Nice to see that they're is even a possibility.

When I read that article, I first thought no way, but then I thought about possible scenarios like Ms. Benson herself has conveyed a direct request to him as a personal favor to her or a request through other NOLA prominent celebrities ,maybe offering a large contract money wise with a future GM or high administrative position with the Saints a few years from . With Payton we could have a shot at an aging QB with declining numbers that wants to prove he still has it.
In any other city Payton would be a great coach but in New Orleans and to the Saints fandom he is more than that .

One of the pros of coming back to NOLA is Payton has god/king status in this city.

He wouldn't have this in any other city.

I don't know how much he values this, though. I'd welcome him back with open arms.

If Dallas bomb out in the playoffs again and Payton is to sign there, that city will throw a street parade that rivaled Hulk Hogan when he signed with WCW in 1994.

Offer him more money than any coach has ever dreamed of. Let him do whatever the hell he wants with this organization.
Ultimate power, let him fire Loomis and bring in whatever GM he wants.
Offer him the world and see if he refuses.

Make it happen Gayle.

It’d still be seen as Jerry’s parade though if the Cowboys host it. If it’s the city of Dallas’ parade, the crowd would be as big as the group of people in the Hulk Hogan pic. Nothing can top a New Orleans parade, especially one involving Payton or the Saints.

Dallas is Jerry’s world. N.O. is practically Payton’s town if he comes back.
