Saints Jeff Duncan says, Saints are very interested in bidding for Xavien Howard. (2 Viewers)

So the Dolphins were wrong for bringing in another good Corner because they already had a good Corner? So you think they should've passed on Byron Jones just so Howard wouldn't get in his feelins? Lol what?

The market was one way in 2019 when the Dolphins made Howard the highest paid Corner in the league. The market was different a year later when they made Jones the highest paid Corner in the league. Seems like the Dolphins wanted to have a great Corner tandem to try to be better at defending passes. Sorry for partying?

I can't fault them for going for it now that the AFC East is wide open.
No, they were not wrong for bringing in another CB. They were wrong for bringing in another lesser CB and making that lesser CB a top 5 paid CB. Look, I’m in my 40s and one thing that I’ve had to learn is that people can get their feelings hurt for the littlest things. In this case, I feel Howard has a legitimate gripe. There is literally no good reason why Byron Jones should be a top 5 paid CB. He’s good, but he’s not top 5 good. I can see that and Howard sees that as well. Jones’ best season is on par with Howard’s worst season (excluding Howard’s rookie year). Howard should be a top 3 paid CB in the league minimum. All he is asking for is a little bump in salary. Players do it all the time. I feel that it’s different when a player of Howard’s caliber does it. The guy goes out there and proves he is worth it. Just look at what he did to show his team that he should be the highest paid CB on his team. Dude went ballistic last year. One of the best seasons I’ve ever seen from a CB. Literally was 5 times the CB as Jones 😆, while doing the heavy lifting. But it’s not like the team will just offer him a raise, that’s just not what they do. So, I’m 100% in the “get your money Howard” camp. Doesn’t matter when the contracts were signed. They signed Howard with the intention of making him as one of the top paid CBs in the league. Then turn around, pays a lesser guy more money, and then drops their “Beast” out of the top 5 in salary. Where is the logic in that? Makes zero sense. I mean, do you want to see your job bring in someone else, who has never done anything close to you (in terms of production), and pays them more? Yet, you bite your tongue, go to work, and outperforms this new person by a wide margin, while doing the bulk of hard work, but yet your employer will be just fine with paying you less? I would assume you went out there and worked your tail off for a reason right? I’m sure it wouldn’t be just for self validation. Despite the NFL being a sport, it’s still a job to these guys, and they have egos. Pay that man what he is worth.

If all he wants is his contract to be fully gtd.... That's an easy fix. Miami already paid half.
He wants more than that. He has already gotten $40 million guaranteed in his contract. Almost no one gets all $75 million guaranteed. Rumors are he wants over $20 million a year.

Who’s money is he taking? Terron’s, Marcus’, Lattimore’s, Winston’s, Hill’s? We are already $22M over the cap next season, so where does he fit in financially? In Loomis we trust, and we have seen Hartley and him work miracles in the past, but how do they navigate this
I think that is the question... But in Loomis I trust

Smiling thinking about this board circa 2002 - 2005 re: Mickey Loomis...

The guy is a freaking bean counter... We need a football man

Then from 2006 - Forward

Make it happen Loomis!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Man imagine if we did get Howard and then resigned Lattimore at a cheaper deal because of his suspension. Best CB tandem in the league by far

I'm sure the Dolphins would've loved it if they could've signed Jones for much, much less but they couldn't. The market dictated his contract, not the team. Can't blame the Dolphins for the way the market works. There are players all over the league who are making top 5 at their position money but aren't actually one of the 5 best players. It's not just about talent, it's about when you sign. Just look at where these players are in the top 5 at their position:

Dak Prescott #2
Jared Goff #5

Keenan Allen #3
Amari Cooper #4

Hunter Henry #3
Jonnu Smith #4

Andrus Peat #2

The thing about Howard is this isn’t his first time taking to social media to air his grievances about his contract. Who’s to say he doesn’t do that a year or two into his time here?

Indeed. The money has to come from somewhere, and Howard wants guaranteed money past his 30th birthday. I don’t know how smart it is to give a guy who hasn’t been on the team that kind of money after 30, but hey, I’m fine either way (it’s not my money).
We gave Brees a 6 year contract when he was 27 and I'd say that worked out just fine.

If this happens, it would be very intriguing to potentially have a secondary defensive unit that consists of Xavien Howard, Marshon Lattimore, Marcus Williams, and Malcom Jenkins with Chauncey Gardner-Johnson & Paulson Adebo at CB depth/nickel-dime situations...HOWEVER, this would be short lived due to contracts and cap restrictions...

It did work out amazingly well. We also resigned Demario last his 30th birthday, and it worked out wonderfully. The difference is we knew who those guys were when we resigned them. They knew the system, they we key players in the system already. They didn’t have a track record of being upset about their contracts either.

OK say we trade for Xavien Howard. How much draft capital are we going to have to give up for him and how much will we have to pay him not counting that we have to sign Lattimore to an extension. We won't be able to afford to keep both. So then we release Lattimore next season and we're back stuck in the same hole, looking for another CB next season.
Actually we’d be in a better position because we’d have Howard instead of Latt as our top corner(that is a step up) and Paulson Adebo will have a year under his belt and be a solid 2(which should be a step up from what we have now as our 2nd CB). In the meantime we have both for a year and a solid 1 for when Latt is suspended.

If someone is willing to pay Byron Jones to $16 million. Some terrible team is willing to pay more for Lattimore.

Probably Cincy

And when Jones signed, he was not a top 5 CB in the league. So, there was no reason for him to get top 5 money. Now, Howard just elevated his game to a $20 million annual level. Is he not within his rights to ask for a raise? In a year where the NFL told officials to only call holding if it’s obvious, a passing league, dude allowed less than 45 yards a game against him. 10 interceptions and 20 PBUs. I’ve seen CBs on our team allow more than 45 yards on one pass play, multiple times a game, and couldn’t even haul in interceptions when it hit them right in the hands. Watch that guy play and you will see why he is worth more than he is making. I’d rather pay Howard and Latt big money, than pay Latt and Marcus Williams big money. Just my $.02

Also, Darius Slay signed his contract a day after Jones did. Until that point, Slay was the better player out of he and Jones. So, why didn’t the Eagles pay Slay more, if the “market was reset”? I mean, they saw what Jones got a day earlier. Bc Slay was not in the top 5 CB conversation. Neither was Jones. So, like I said, the Dolphins created that problem being stupid.
Also, when mentioning players that are in the top 5 that are not making top 5 money. Do all of these players shut their mouths and just wait until their contract is up or players asking for a raise just a Howard thing? This is not a new development. Howard has a case to say that he is the best CB in the entire league. Almost all of the top 5 players can’t say that. In fact, Howard should have probably been voted the defensive player of the year over Aaron Donald. Donald (who is an absolute freak) isn’t doing anything that he hasn’t already done. However, what Howard did (10 interceptions) hasn’t been done since 2007. And yet, he only got 3 first place votes. So, not only is he getting disrespected by his own team, he’s getting disrespected by the voters. Guy just wants to be appreciated. What is the harm in that? It’s not my money.

I remember when people stated when Thomas held out and they declare that he'll hold again later... We should of trade him instead of paying him. Same with Kamara...

On an aspect that has zero barring on you as a fan. Who cares if a player gets paid... Great players get paid. Don't you want great players?

I have no problem with Howard wanting more money. He deserves it. I just didn't understand the idea of the Dolphins making a mistake by signing another quality Corner. They wanted him and that was the price of poker. It's not Jones' fault or Howard's. Just the business they're in.

And Don’t forget about Chauncey! Dude put up helluva numbers at Nickel last year!

Yeah, it may be short lived. Hell, it may not happen at all.

But for now, it sure looks nice on paper, dont it? 😂
