Saints Jeff Duncan says, Saints are very interested in bidding for Xavien Howard. (1 Viewer)

And Don’t forget about Chauncey! Dude put up helluva numbers at Nickel last year!

Yeah, it may be short lived. Hell, it may not happen at all.

But for now, it sure looks nice on paper, dont it? 😂
Oh there's no doubt. On paper we'd have the best secondary in the league. Latt & Howard combined with Williams, Jenkins, & CGJ would allow Dennis Allen and Kris Richard to do anything they want. We'd have so much versatility. On paper it looks like the closest thing to a no fly zone you can have in the modern NFL.

Not sure how I'd feel about this, paying big bucks when we already had our guy that we let go. Does smell awfully familiar when you think about it. I know Jenkins is a little up there in age, but he played great and probably has another productive year or two, and we could have kept looking to get younger and letting younger guys develop. Nonetheless, corner is a need, but we knew that since letting Jenkins go, which again makes me wonder why we let him go.

I pass, because of our current status and lack of assets to trade with. We are no longer in the Drew retirement countdown, instead, we are in a transition period looking for our next long-term QB while trying to manage our cap. In the long term, I think being patient with the upcoming suspensions and develop some young guys on D.

Yeah this is how I feel too. With so much uncertainty at QB I don't know if they can afford to be trading for a big ticket Corner. Well, I know they can afford it but does it make sense? Right now we don't know who are starting QB will be this season let alone the future.

If Winston turns out to be awesome then we'll have to sign him, but if we trade for Howard we'll be cash strapped. If Winston and Hill are a train wreck then we'll need to draft a QB, but trading for Howard will leave us draft poor. They might look to acquire a vet QB but again, they'll need the resources to do it. In a perfect world Book turns out to be the truth and we have an awesome secondary with a QB playing for peanuts.

I wish Howard would've been this upset last off season. With Drew coming back for one more year, one last all in move like this could've been huge.

I think the window closes shut after this year. So, I'd sell out, but if I I'd the buyer option of swapping LAT for Howard at much reduced cost. I would in a heartbeat

I have no problem with Howard wanting more money. He deserves it. I just didn't understand the idea of the Dolphins making a mistake by signing another quality Corner. They wanted him and that was the price of poker. It's not Jones' fault or Howard's. Just the business they're in.
Did Miami really pay Jones that much because they were going to get outbid otherwise? Or did their not always wise front office bid against themselves and overpay?

We all think the Bengals overpaid for Hendrickson and have seen lots of bad and even some good GMs overpay players through the years. Players know when that happens as well and top 5 players usually are not content to make less than new teammates that are in no way as good as them.

I do not hold that against players and do see it as a sign that the people in charge are maybe not as good at the personnel side of management as they need to be. I mean, they could have bumped Howard the Loomis way and gave him more guaranteed money and lowered his cap hit. Why should he not ask for a raise because the Dolphin front office is not as good at their jobs as he is at his?

Yeah, I couldn’t help but gettin a lil giddy jus THINKIN bout dat group!

😂

Overall, only the loss of DO ( Our best DT by far!) for 6 games has me a lil concerned about the D line. But I think Coach Nielsen has, literally, a ton of young big bodied DTs to work with til he returns.

But IF they can stay healthy ( esp YOU Mr. Davenport! 🤬), IMO, this years DEs might well be the deepest, most athletic, talented group in the Sean Payton era! Whether by necessity ( the loss of Onyemata) or by design, I won’t b surprised if we see more 3 DEs in some nickel sets, n more 4 DE “NASCAR” sets in long yardage/ dime situations!

We could very well b that one DB away from havin a really good group! But Its also been said a good pass rush is a DBs best friend. So I think folk might wanna keep an eye on ours this year!

Brees isn't tappin the cap for $30 mil a year anymore

Drew never took over 25mil/year so anything over that was due to us backloading and restructuring. If Taysom or Jameis become our long-term answer at QB they will be making that money in 2022 and beyond. The only way around it is to draft a quarterback. That's why I'm hoping Ian Book is the one that breaks out.
