Jersey Number Shakeup 2024 (1 Viewer)

Because he's not a forty something year old fan who grew up watching football in the 80s and still clings to what was allowed 5 decades ago. He has no frame of reference for why it feels wrong to us.

Sure, but even college CBs and young NFL CBs don't often choose #14. There are probably exceptions that I just didn't notice but I can't think of any. Even Ingram when he wore #14 said that it felt weird. And he wore #1 at Alabama.

But, maybe he's one of those guys that wants to choose an odd number and make it their own. Kind of like how AK kept #41.

One of the strangest looks is Khalen Saunders wearing #50. It gives off the vibe that his jersey is two sizes too small.

Currently there isn't a number in the nineties available. It seems he gave the number 99 up that he wore last year to Chase Young.

As of now the numbers 69 and 79 are available. Either would look more fitting for Saunders than the number 50, imho.

Most of these odd position numbers looks like we are fielding a bunch of street free agents because of a rash of injuries.

Surprised Tipton hasn’t taken a number in the teens.

And Saunders could take a 90s number off a practice squad guy, right?

He would have first dibs over a PS guy yes, however it’s not simple to just switch numbers there are a few things that’s go into it like having to purchase the remaining quantities of jerseys on the old number.
Now I know what you’re thinking, there may be a whole 10 Saints Saunders jerseys in existence LOL but still it’s an approval thing that has to happen with the league.

That being said is why I’m honestly more surprised that Kool-Aid changed to 14 because jersey numbers are easier to change as a rookie because you haven’t had that many made yet. So what I’m saying is unless he’s gonna cough up money in the future, he’s likely sticking with 14 permanently. Now being that it’s a defensive back, I’m sure they make a lot less jerseys. Let’s say a quarterback or wide receiver, so probably wouldn’t cost a whole lot to change out down the road.

Frankly his awful number is a better argument for cutting him than anything else I have seen here.

Not sure that is an issue until regular season numbers assigned. Neither has worn those numbers before in the regular season.

What are you referring to? I was talking about both Saunders and koolaid. But never the less it’s about how many jerseys they have made with the old number in stock basically for league approval.

Tyrann Mathieu was #14 before Patrick Peterson passed #7 down to him

But #2 was not allowed back then.
Not even for kickers? I seem to remember Garo Yepremian wearing 1. There have been some past anomalies. For instance, Jim Otto wore 00 as a center while Charley Conerly wore 42 as a QB and RB Johnny Olszewski wore 0. That’s during the late 1950s.

Nonetheless , I hate most of the number changes. It’s just confusing when so-called non-skill players wear single digits and numbers between 10 and 49.

Numbering conventions as we’ve long understood them were set into place in 1973. There have been minor tweaks but the modifications that went into effect in 2021 are the most significant changes by far.
