NFL Draft Joe Burrow (1 Viewer)

I would agree but his pedigree suggests otherwise. Apparently one of the reasons his football IQ is so high is because of his defensive minded-father.

Plus, the way they talked about his preparation during the offseason with his receivers, it sounded drew brees-esque. Of course, that doesn't mean he's a sure thing but I think it'll translate well. Long as he doesn't get too beat up behind some terrible oline.

Even so, knees, shoulders, etc. don't care about pedigree. They say never pass up a guy you think is a franchise QB, but I'd also never bet the farm on one.

True and he seems to like to take hits for some reason but he's not injury prone from my recollection. With the right offense and coach he could thrive at the pro level, right? He seems special and to have that "it" factor but I could be talking out the side of my head here.

First rounders get 5 year deals. Then they can be franchised.

Right. If the QB is good enough to turn a team into a contender and establish a market for himself, he'd be a fool not to stay where he is for a second contract and continue his success, and his team wouldn't let him get away. If he doesn't turn the team around that drafted him, he won't have market interest - unless his name is Jay Cutler.

I think we need to do what ever it takes to get Burrow. I don’t think it would take a Ditka type trade but we need him.

He checks off every box you could ask a QB to have. He doesn’t get rattled or make bad throws. He knows part of our offense already and executed it to perfection. He broke the record for highest completion percentage in NCAA.

Totally, totally agree. Problem is, every team that needs a franchise QB is thinking the same thing. Anyone that has a chance to get Burrow will not deal it away. Sad, but that's the way it is.

If there was a create-a-player for SP's offense it's Burrow and that is factoring in physical talent, football IQ, reaction/decision making speed, coaching, leadership, confidence and grit. And before comments rain in about his arm strength, if there is anything we have learned over the last 14 years is that you don't have to have the strongest arm, you have to know the offense and be accurate.

There is a piece of trade value that everyone seems to forget and that is Teddy. Everyone just assumes we would just let him walk in FA. He's a 27 y/o experienced QB who has earned a starting job in the right situation. The FO can franchise tag him and trade him to a team that needs a starter who might not want to go with a rookie. Colts, Panthers, Chargers, Bucs, Dolphins, Bengals and Bears all come to mind as they either don't have a QB or there are questions surrounding if their current QB is their QB of the future. The Bears gave 2 1sts+ for Mack who disappears in games, would those picks have been better used on a consistent QB?

On the surface it may seem that we don't have what it will take to move up and grab Burrow at #1, but it is not impossible and it may take more than one trade to do it. Some options are trading into the middle of the 1st which a franchise tagged TB would easily have that value. So we could accumulate draft capital and them move up.

Another option is do the Bengals really want to go with a rookie? They have WRs, TEs, RBs and their defense has talent. They lack a QB and offensive line help. TB, 2020 1st and 2021 1st would be enough to move move up to #1. In that scenario, we really only give up the 2021 1st.

If there was ever a Saints team that could withstand trading draft capital to get the QB of the future, it is this current team due to how successful the FO has had over recent years in the draft and UDFA finds.

No. Teddy Bridgewater& 2 firsts will not move you from #32 (or anywhere close) to #1. This isn't Madden. Not only does Burrow have a LEAST 5 years more than TB. He doesn't have any injury history AND has a much higher ceiling than Teddy has ever had (and I love TB).

But, probably MOST importantly, Burrow will be cheap, for 5 years. That rookie QB window won SBs for Philly & Seattle and got the Rams (with zebra assistance) to the big show. No GM is giving that up for Teddy. Sorry.

I never said this was Madden and I don't even play Madden. Thanks for your opinion.

That's the only bit you focused on? Rookie wage scale? Salary cap? Paying a QB like Teddy more in one year (20-25M) than Joe Burrow will make over 4... With at least an extra year and potentially 2 tagged years too... You get why that means no team would make that trade, right?

Y'all thinking we can move way up are probably forgetting that there are about 25 other teams easily who would move up for him too. Almost all of them (or all of them) will have a better draft position than we will.

Every team in our division alone would no doubt do everything in their power to keep Sean Payton from getting a potential 23 year old Drew Brees. Every single one of those teams are guaranteed to have better draft capital to move up and grab him.

Absolutely 0 chance we get him. I hate saying never, but I'm saying never with certainty.
