I am wanting to do a survey of sorts. I want to find out how many of us SR folks actually played or coached on the college level or beyond. By played, I mean you did more than go to a try out or play video games. Did you play in an actual college football game where you wore pads and weren't in a PE class? By coached, I mean you were hired by a head coach to work with players to help improve their skills in some way - this can be high school or college or beyond. Being a rabid fan does not count. If you did both play and coach, let me know. Please feel free to go into details.

There will be a poll.

As for me, I played 4 years of college football as a WR and then spent three years coaching (one as a RBs coach and two as a WRs coach). The hours killed me.

I know I'm not the only one.

I probably could have played at UL but for 10 straight weeks during my high school senior season, one or both of my shoulders popped out of place. I got tired of that. Why don't you coach anymore?

The hours killed me - I was getting my Master's degree at the time too, and I think I just got burned out. I'm actually thinking of getting back into it - maybe next year.

What was causing your shoulders to pop out like that. I only ever had my left shoulder pop out once in a practice and it was the most painful thing I ever felt.

I played for 2 and a half years before i had to stop for university (training session was 8-8.30 pm to midnight and having to wake up at 5.30 to get the train was not really doable for me). But i played here in italy of course, so nowhere near college level

AmerVet – Back in 99, I used to be able to throw a pigskin a quarter mile.
My Son – Are you serious?
AmerVet – I’m dead serious.
AmerVet– How much you wanna make a bet I can throw a football over them mountains? Well, if coach woulda put me in fourth quarter, we’d have been state champions. No doubt. No doubt in my mind. You better believe things had been different. I’d have gone pro in a heartbeat. I’d be making millions of dollars and living in a big ol’ mansion somewhere, soaking it up in a hot tub with my soul mate.

Yea true, I know its time consuming. I kinda wanted to maybe coach high school but louisiana h.s. football coaches get paid wayyy to little.

And about my shoulders, every time id put my shoulder into a tackle it would pop out. I actually had to wear a shouldrr brace too which sucked, it limited my arm movement a little too much. But yea its extremely painful. Could never sleep after games cause it was impossible to get comfortable in bed

Classic.

1 year college ball as RB before injury. Coached 6 years high school ball including 1 year as HC. Time, marriage and money got me out. Foolish times, should have stayed coaching.

I played all 4 years in High School then went to play in a local semi-pro league. Then age caught up with me...

Played in UK for Leicester Panther (was national champion in 91), Newmarket Hornets and Cambridge County Cats. Then came to US as an Ecxchange stue and played 1 year of HS football for Westside Warriors in Omaha, NE.

Went to a small naia school called William Jewell, despite some offers from bigger schools. lettered 4 years, started 3 at OLB/DE was all conference fro senior year.

Was invited to to out for then NFLE europe for the London Monarchs. as well as invite to small school combines and all star games.

made it to the final cuts for th monarchs, was rated 8th out of the final 50. they sign 7 'national; players. playedn semi pro for a bit before a broken leg sorta did my fb days in

Thing is, back then i was a classic tweener- 6' 4", 250 ish. not quite big enough for a 4-3 DE., not fast enough in space to play a real OLB. and back then the monarchs were running a 4-3. I would have been a classic 3-4 old thats all the rage now. think trent murphy/ chase thomas/ Ryan Kerrigan

Some of you people have serious insecurity problems. Yeah this thread is totally meant to point out the few élite who actually played football, then get them in an organization and finally blackmailing andrus and taking over sr.com thanks to our superior knowledge. Crap, you got draftfreak, ABORT MISSION.
