Karate Kid Sequel (2 Viewers)

I was initially going to criticize this season for retreading too much of the same ground (Daniel and Johnny try and work together and have a falling out, miscommunication leading to drama between parents/mentors and kids, yet another bullied kid who ends up going too far in trying to become strong, fights at parties, etc.) but the tournament was good, and by the end of it, I think things are in a pretty interesting place. You've got:

- Robbie and Tory with possible redemption paths.
-Cobra Kai as a spreading power in the valley with Kreese out of the picture and an even more unhinged Terry Silver taking over.
-Kreese likely wanting revenge on Silver for what he did. Maybe not a redemption arc for him, but possibly an enemy of my enemy is my friend kind of thing. They played up Johnny being his weak spot.
-Daniel finally admitting that his defense only approach has failed and he needs to get proactive.
-Daniel bringing in Chozen to bring that killer instinct and help end this sheet once and for all.

So I think things are at a pretty interesting place now even if most of the season was a little close to the formula. Enjoyed it overall.

All that said, though, Stingray is an utterly ludicrous character. Like, I accept it. He's part of this universe. It is what it is. But he's still ludicrous.

I was really hoping Silver had killed him.

And I know she plays a high school student, but she's legal in real life. Tori is hot as hell.

It's going to be a long year waiting for season 5. I agree that most of the season was a little too formulaic, but that last episode was absolutely amazing. It actually broke a number of the formulas and set up a fantastic season 5.

How does this show continue to redeem seemingly irredeemable characters?

I think by showing that they're damaged and that even if they're kind of over the top in their villainy you still feel some sympathy for them because of what caused them to end up there. There may be mustache twirling but it's rarely bad for the sake of bad. Nearly everyone on this show is carrying some hardcore baggage/emotional damage.

So, basically, decent writing?

I love it. Just amazing all the way around. Whoever came up with the idea of this show did a good job. My only wish is that they make more episodes. Maybe around 14 or so each season.
