Kellen Moore expected to be Saints coach (47 Viewers)

It's hard to judge Moore because of the insane level of talent he has at his disposal.

The best offensive line in the league.

The best running back in the league.

A true #1 receiver in AJ Brown.

A true #2 maybe #1 on some teams in Smith.

A very good TE as well.

Pro bowl caliber QB in Hurts.

That's seriously game breaking amount of talent and he most likely will never have that level of talent ever again.
When you have the best OL in the league it makes the rest of the offense so much better.

I think we need to look at some of the rosters of successful coaches. Quickly, Siriani inherited a Super Bowl roster with a quarterback in place. Campbell inherited a talented roster as well and a solid quarterback in Stafford. Stevanski seems to be the overachiever without a QB, but they have talent from being a losing team for so long. Stanley is probably an obviously bad coach, but several guys have tried and failed to get the Chargers turned around. The numbers clearly show most coaches fail, but you can't discount the team's talent in the probability of success. You still need a gifted coach, but it's an uphill battle without talent and a QB. We must remember we hit it out of the park with Drew, Reggie, PT, and others. Allen was just a bad coach.
For that exercise I’m going to edit my original post to show the coaches that remain from 2022

Oddly enough Bowles is the only defensive minded guy to stick and he may be benefiting from the division weakness more than anything. Campbell is 1 of only 3 coaches (Harbaugh’s) that doesn’t have an offensive or defensive background

So we are barking up the right tree w/ Moore.

You made the biggest point: the high failure rate. Talent does matter unless you're just a bad coach. I think hiring Moore is the easy part; finding him an elite quarterback and rebuilding the roster is going to be the hard part.

I still don’t think the roster is in bad shape from a pure talent standpoint. It’s just that Injuries hit nearly all those “talents” and exposed the lack of a middle class.

It further exposed that Carr isn’t a glue type of player that can hold the bridge together when it collapses.

Think about how terrible the 2014 roster was and on the strength of Drew’s arm we still managed 7 wins. Any other QB/Coach barely scrapes 3-4 wins w/ that depleted group.

What exactly do you think NFL GMs do if they aren't responsible for drafts, free agents, or roster construction?

Not resigning Hendrickson after he lead our team in pressures, sacks (almost double Cam), TFLs, QB hits, and pass rush win rate falls on the GM. Of course blame goes on the HC but that's literally the GMs job.
This is revisionist history…. The dude was hurt for 3 season, had one break out season and we just drafted a guy that we gave up 2 1st for…. It was a pretty logical decision that didn’t work out.

Next, the same people will use the same logic to complain about Baun…. They won’t remember that we had DD ahead of him and aren’t guna run him out of town.

Baun admitted/confirmed everything you just said in his interview w/ Underhill and subsequent write up and people still come on here and force their narrative as a truth

He’s going to be making $3 million more a year than the guy begging him to stay in Philly. If I’m Sirianni I’d be insulted.
He's probably getting a raise soon.

Mick and the FO are responsible for the lack of depth combined with bad coaching. Drew and Jayden this year are clear examples of the importance of intangibles at the position. Some guys just have it; Carr clearly doesn't. Moore's success will be closely tied to our finding a quarterback and the FO hitting on a couple of drafts.

I think the stnkers guy must be a relative of Carr. He clowns anything that doesn’t paint him in the best light.

It’s cute

SMH , myself and other people have explained to you how the Saints and quite a few other GMs work. ML just like quite a few GMs rely on the HC and the scouting dept for player evaluations . ML gives the HC and the scouting dept pretty much what they want because THEY are the knowledgeable football people. You think Roseman or Holmes don't ask the HC and pro-player personnel dept who they want to draft, re-sign and go after in FA??? It's them that have the most say.

Hendrickson had 6.5 sacks in 3yrs before blowing up for 1 yr and DA felt it was an anomaly that he was just an effort guy. GMs are not sitting on some throne saying draft this guy or re-sign that gut or I'm going to sign this guy form a different team. They get who the GM and the scouting dept want.

IS the GM ultimately responsible? Yes but only because he's the GM.
I gave you many examples of how ML works and who has the responsibility for what, but you just ignored them. The only thing ML is guilty of is hiring the HC and the scouting dept and listening to them. But guess what? The way he gives the HC what he wants is probably the reason Moore is going to be our new HC

I'm convinced that some team affiliates or players are lurkers on this site. They usually get very sensitive about the team's or certain players' obvious shortcomings.
