Saw this is another thread, but it's worthy of its own discussion. It does look like he can't set his feet and push off the right leg.

Anyone have any thoughts on if this is the Achilles still giving him issues?

ESPN’s Bill Barnwell looked at Cousin’s Next Gen stats for the game, and noticed that the QB’s ability to run was the slowest it’s been in a game since 2017 “by a considerable margin.”

Additionally, Cousins took just 4% of his snaps from under center, and the Falcons didn't run play-action on a single snap. Cousins' best seasons have come in offenses in which he was under center and working with heavy doses of play-action.

It’s good that we’re getting a game against the Failcons early this year.

You need more than 1 play to determine if his rehab didn't go well but in order to throw any kind of ball with any velocity you need to be pushing off the ball of your rear foot...

I've never really looked at his mechanics before but you should also look at his pre-injury throws to see if he is one of these people that don't use their lower body very much.

He isn't push-driving off of that back foot at all...

A falcon fan told me that they ran mostly pistol formations because cousins had trouble dropping back from under center and planting on his right foot. (Due to the injury) I don’t know his source for this but assume he would have more knowledge than me about cousins since he’s a falcons fan.

I’ve read that that the turds were that afraid of Watt and changed up their game plan because of him….but something doesn’t feel right here. He must not be nowhere near 100 percent health wise.

An article from a few days before the game that mentions his injury status:

It is my understanding that the reason Achillies injuries have one of the longest recovery windows is because it is one of the most difficult to overcome psychologically.

If you read interviews with athletes who have returned from that injury, they all similarly say that it was over a year, post-return, before they felt 100% and that the biggest hurdle was “letting go” and trusting the repairs. It’s such a painful injury and grueling recovery that the body does everything it can to prevent the athlete from experiencing that pain again - typically to the detriment of the athlete’s natural skill set.

Some people suspect this may be why Penix barely played at all in the preseason. Could be that Cousins is hanging by a thread.

He is getting very little push-drive off of that foot.

I had the Atlanta game on in the background while the Saints were stomping out the kitties.

People who didn't watch the game really don't understand how bad it is. Cousins was never mobile to begin with and now he's a genuine statue. They don't trust him to be able to make a 5 step drop without falling over, and their offensive line got whooped across the board. Their defense has a lot of holes but had the benefit of playing Justin Fields and a putrid Steelers offense.

If the Saints had opened the season against Atlanta, I don't think Atlanta scores. I don't think Atlanta crosses the 50 yard line. I think the shellacking the Panthers got would look like a close and competitive game to what they'd have done to the alcons.
