N/S Kirk Cousins May Be More Hurt Than Thought (1 Viewer)

ESPN’s Bill Barnwell looked at Cousin’s Next Gen stats for the game, and noticed that the QB’s ability to run was the slowest it’s been in a game since 2017 “by a considerable margin.”

Additionally, Cousins took just 4% of his snaps from under center, and the Falcons didn't run play-action on a single snap. Cousins' best seasons have come in offenses in which he was under center and working with heavy doses of play-action.

It’s good that we’re getting a game against the Failcons early this year.
I wouldn't feel to great about this. Remember how many yards Matt "Wheels" Ryan could sometimes rush on us, lol.

Saw this is another thread, but it's worthy of its own discussion. It does look like he can't set his feet and push off the right leg.

Anyone have any thoughts on if this is the Achilles still giving him issues?

Sure looks like he was throwing that away. An accurate pass there is a pic 6.

I'm a bit cautious on this. I get the low percentages of dropbacks and play action seem to support the narrative of him still not being 100%.

But we're only seeing one play/throw in that video and from that angle the goal post is blocking part of the view.

He was under pressure all day from T.J. Watt and it looks me that he hurried that pass without properly planting his foot.

If the ATL coaching staff thought he was struggling with it in a close game, one would think they would have sat him and tried to get the win. And would they leave him in the game if it was bothering him to a point of re-injuring it and possibly being lost for the season?

It will be telling by Wednesday when the initial injury reports come out.

A falcon fan told me that they ran mostly pistol formations because cousins had trouble dropping back from under center and planting on his right foot. (Due to the injury) I don’t know his source for this but assume he would have more knowledge than me about cousins since he’s a falcons fan.
Somebody on here posted the percentages from ESPNstats. Now I can't remember what thread it was in. If I can find it, i'll repost.

I said the same thing. I have no doubt he isn’t close to 100%. He just didn’t want to give Penix any shot, and he wanted to ball out for his contract. He’s a competitor! Leave it to the Falcons to not protect the athlete from themselves.
Think about how drafting Penix created that atmosphere. The Falcons will Falcon.

But all of the experts said the injury would be a non factor and Cousins would be fine.

They preached to us all off season about how much talent was on this Falcons team.

An Achilles injury is tough for even a young player to come back from and Cousins is 36 years old.

It's tough to swallow but he may never regain what he was before the injury.

Kinda what I saw as well there.
But all I can say is that the Falcons better have a plan to block up our blitz packages.

You need more than 1 play to determine if his rehab didn't go well but in order to throw any kind of ball with any velocity you need to be pushing off the ball of your rear foot...

I've never really looked at his mechanics before but you should also look at his pre-injury throws to see if he is one of these people that don't use their lower body very much.

He isn't push-driving off of that back foot at all...

Warren Sharp (who is excellent) presents the same idea but with every drop back:
