Kurt Warner: Did Rattler even have a chance against the Chargers? (2 Viewers)

I still believe in Spencer Rattler, and feel like he should get as many reps as possible given the status of our season. This season is a loss, so let DC rest, and let Rat and Heaner get as much spin as possible. We know what we have in DC, now is the time to see what we have in the young guys.

I also believe that the Chargers will eventually move on from Hebert like they did with Brees nearly 2 decades ago. When that happens I want the Saints to be there at his doorstep with the boombox held over their head blasting Peter Gabriel.

We were still in the game when Rattler was pulled. Penalties and pressure killed our offense, not QB play. I can see playing the third QB if the game were out of hand. Seemed like an act of desperation to pull Rattler.

We were desperate, desperate for some offense. Again, I like Rattler, but he was OFF in that game. He was missing EASY throws. He got pulled to try and spark the offense.

I mean Warner had success in the Martz system which was vastly different than the Shanhan/Kubiak system. A major part of that is the QB has much less control and much less ability to change things up than in the Martz system. So, it's not surprising at all that Warner doesn't like it.

But I do think that the play calling for Rattler in the Chargers game was overly conservative and they didn't really set him up for success. The play calling for Haener dramatically changed and opened up. But maybe that's because Rattler wasn't ready for that stuff?

But, if Rattler wasn't ready for that stuff then why did they start him over Haener?
Marshall Faulk, Ike Bruce, Torry Holt and a stellar o-line didn't hurt either, plus a pretty effective, aggressive defense didn't hurt either. Rattler hasn't shown much but the team is overall is so bad, so its hard to say. It takes some guys longer for it to click, but poor play everywhere on the field makes it impossible.

With the poor receiving and TE corps we have and all the dropped passes in that game—including a big drop by Kamara—I can’t blame either QB for not getting results.

Y'all trippin'

Rattler is NOT an accurate passer. That's why he got benched.

Lots of off target and difficult to catch throws.

I LOVE his mobility and moxie, but Rattler's ineffectiveness has been because he is inaccurate.
Watch Rattlers feet and you begin to understand his struggles. He needs an offseason to work on it

I know a lot of us are leaning this way but this is more of an indictment of what we are doing offensively than Rattler. While I think both him and Haener needs time to develop into what they can be, I don't believe neither is being set up for success.

Rattler gameplan spoke volumes about what the staff thinks about him as a QB right now. That begs the question of why even start him then? Typical Dennis Allen stupidity.

Pretty sure DA noticed that Rattler has no pocket awareness, throws medicine balls, stares down receivers, is too slow finding and reacting to receivers breaking open, and often misses wide open receivers.

I suppose he believes most of those issues can be improved, the question is how long will it take.

I get it. We want stuff to talk about, and things/people to blame. But man, weve had a thousand threads and a million takes pointing out the smoking guns. It all comes back to the same things though.

We lost a HOF QB and coach back to back. Depth across the roster hasnt been one of our strengths since Drew's last season. Our proven stars are old and we havent found stars to replace them. Top it all off with an unbelievable amount of injuries that no team, no system, and no coach could overcome.

Few teams win many games without their atarting QB. No team wins much after losing their starting QB, Most of their OL, and all of their receivers.

Kubiac's system requires the running game to work and even then requires the qb and wrs to click when called on.

Look how fast miami fell apart after Tua went down... just one example. Blame cap, blame drafting, blame whatever. Our best dopplefanger is the patriots. Their HOF coach and QB left and they havent even been competitive since. And up until this year, they basically fielded a rattler and heaner level of QB play and have been decimated by injuries and players jumping ship.

BTW, I felt the end was upon us when we lost williams and Armstead a couple years back. To me, that along with MTs injury was the final straw. Not the cause of death, just a huge signal that it was over.

My half paying attention observation during the game...

Haener seemed to make decisions quicker. Was that because things were open earlier, or he's anticipating better? Not sure.
Fresh legs. His clock wasnt sped up like rattler's clock was. I think with the lead and our offense showing it wasnt a threat, that the charger's defense played off more and didnt blitz as much. Other than that they looked much the same. We didnt have a QB problem, we have a talent problem. Mostly due to injuries and lack of depth.

I'm fairly certain I saw stats that showed they blitzed Haener more than Rattler.

You're not likely to win when you lose half your established players, but it's also an opportunity to play the young guys.

Lots of very young teams challenge for the playoffs every year, and stars are born. It really irks me when coaches play mediocre players because they are afraid to give young players a chance to play. I sends a clear message of "no confidence" to the youngsters.
