N/S Lattimore traded at the right time? (ruled Out for 4 consecutive weeks since trade) [Lattimore will make Commanders debut against the Saints] (2 Viewers)

If I see one more..... "this is because we traded Lattimore" post in the Game Day thread.

How did he pass a physical? Are the Commanders playing it safe for the long game?
Of course, I think he's under contract for another year or two. They expect to be in the hunt for the playoffs, so adding a guy with his skill set is not a short-term thing. I'm sure they wish he was on the field already, but they have a long-term view.

Honestly this makes me feel a little better. I was in the camp that Lattimore could have played through if he would have wanted to and simply chose to miss so many games because of the state of the Saints. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of his, but it always seemed like he would stay hurt while others would push through.

Latt doing a solid for Saints fans.

“I’ll just sit out for the rest of the season so that they feel good about the trade.” :hihi:

Rumors were well-publicized that he was one of the "malcontents" in the locker room. To be fair...RUMORS!
I've seen a couple of posters say this, but I've never seen or read anything that would indicate he's a locker room problem. The guy always seemed to have a good attitude in the interviews I've seen from him and can't recall anything from social media. So, imo, either let it be or post a source.

Trade looking really good for us lol

If he plays 13 games/season for the next two years he is under contract at CB1 level, then Wash fans will be happy. Forbes can't get on the field, Sainristil is a N, and their boundary guys are #2s at best. He is still a shutdown CB1 when on the field. He is moving into Armstead-like availability/talent/cost. It's a solid trade for both teams.

I've read it on here, with referenced links to end of last season. I question it myself, which is why I emphasized RUMORS. And maybe "malcontent" isn't the right word. He was rumored (there's that word again) to be one of those players who weren't onboard with the DA regime, or had become critical.

Whether he was or wasn't isn't the point...at least to me it isn't. My point is that his continued injury with the Commanders should end any speculation that his injury was anything other than a bona-fide injury. I had considered whether there was more to it, but I no longer question whether it was ever anything more. I'm fine letting it be. Dude was, and remains, injured. I still believe he'll somehow play against the Saints, and make us question the wisdom of trading him. Nothing more...

Fair enough. If he wasn't on board with the DA regime, then I got no issue with that. He certainly wasn't the only one. I just never got any sort of legitimate indication that he was anything other than a team player.

Fwiw, I didn't doubt the injury, even before he was traded. He's had injury issues before and even tried to play with injuries in the past, so I always felt like if he can play, he would.

I wonder more that Allen's approach hasn't helped with the injury problems. That sort of issue seems tough to pin on any one thing because it's not a problem unique to the Saints.

Being a Malcontent in DA's locker doesn't make one a locker room problem - it's actually the opposite, he saw weak leadership and wasn't on board with it. I'm cool with anyone being against what was being perpetuated as leadership during the DA error.

Lattimore has now missed 22 games from 2022-present.

Well on the other hand, he has played in 24 games from 2022-present. He played at a high level in the games he did play in during that stretch.

However, paying a player for a full season and getting only a half a season games played for any player isn't a good deal for the team.

Availability >Ability.

He's a shutdown corner when healthy but the past 3 seasons he has barely been able to stay on the field half the time.

This trend for him may pass, and it may not. Since it has been three years in a row logic would suggest not to count on him breaking the pattern. Time will tell.

As far as who won the trade the jury will be out on that for a while yet. His future play and what the Saints get with the picks acquired may take years to say for sure.

Lattimore missing the first 3 games as a Commander won't define the deal long term, but you can bet there's plenty of short-sighted fans in DC that are wondering about it already. If he's able to return and play to 100% of his ability down the stretch this season and into the playoffs those fans will have a quick change of mind.

I agree with most here that he's been the best corner to wear a Saints uniform considering his play over the 97 games over 7 and half years he suited up.

I wish him the best of luck in his future. His chapter as a Saint is now over. As a Saints fan I'm most concerned with what the Saints current and future players do.

As of right now I'd say we are ahead in the trade. The determining factor will be how often an how long he is injured, and what we get on draft day. I think just the 3rd will wind up being a top 75 pick
