Lets build the worst Saints team ever! (2 Viewers)

Out of those two? It’s Carl Smith - no contest. PC coordinated for some of best offenses in NFL history.
I'm basing my opinion on the last 2 years of PC as an OC, without Payton, without Brees. The days of best offenses in the NFL, that was Payton's offense, while Payton was here.. and CS didn't have the players PC had in those Payton days. Hebert, Moe Martin, Perriman, Lonzell Hill, vis a vis Brees, Coston, Lance, Devery...

yea, but you have to take it overall. that's like saying Bill Belichick was the Patriots worse Coach because you are baseing it on his last year.

It's not like that, though. The best Saints offenses we saw weren't PC's product. They were the product of Sean Payton's playbook, and Sean Payton calling the plays... when PC started calling plays, if things started to go South, Payton would take the playsheet from PC and call the offense himself. Once PC was left to his own devices the last two years, we saw the results. And sure, PC didn't have the players on offense the last 2 years the Saints had in 2009-2018, but neither did Carl Smith.

Have we mentioned Jonathan Sullivan yet?

I was driving home to NJ from Buffalo and listening to the draft on the radio. I had gone into the draft wanting one of the corners and had thought the Saints may go in that direction. Dallas took Newman at 5 and then we traded up to 6. I was hoping it was for Trufant and I'm pretty sure the announcers thought it was as well. And then it was for Sullivan and the rest of the drive sucked.

I promise you he wasn’t.
So, Jean-Baptiste, a R2 pick who couldn’t get on the the field and was cut after 1 tackle in 1 season (4 games) wasn’t worse than Browner, who started 16 games with 76 tackles and 10 PBU?

Mark Fields was a very good linebacker for us. He was also a big contributor to the team that won our first playoff game.

He should not be on this list at all.
Ya he was my fav player on that defense. Just not any talent around him to raise his game even further

right, but at the same time, take Brady from BB and i am pretty sure none remembers BB. Brady went on to win the SB and make the playoffs 3 times with another team. i have no doubt Brady made BB.

I went with a 3-4 instead of a 4-3 since our most famous Ds have been 3-4 and for the lines i just went with OL and DL without regard for specific position:

QB: Karl Sweetan 1968
RB: Jim Taylor 1967
RB: Vaughn Dunbar 1992-94
WR: Albert Connell 2001
WR; Lindsay Scott 1982-85
TE: Coby Fleener 2016-17
OL: Keno Hills 1996-98
OL: Royce Smith 1972
OL: Olin Kreutz 2011
OL: Daryl Terrell 1999-01
OL: Sam Holden 1971

DL: Joe Campbell 1977-80
DL: Ted Gregory 1988
DL: Jonathan Sullivan 2003-05

LB: Junior Galette 2010-14
LB: Alvin Toles 1985-88
LB: Les Kelley 1967-69
LB: Rick Middleton 1974-75

CB: Brandon Browner 2015
CB: Jason David 2007-08
S: Tebucky Jones 2003-04
S: Josh Bullocks 2005-08

K: Happy Feller 1972-73
P Russel Erxleben 1979-83

I think criteria should include that they had to have been an intentional, full-time starter at some point, OR were picked in the first or second round.

We can all easily name a bunch of bad practice squad/backup guys that snuck their way into the lineup due to injuries, or guys picked in round 6 that we quickly discovered didn’t belong in the league, but that would be too easy.

With that in mind, I’d like to nominate Heath Shuler as this team’s starting QB.

Even still. He was part of the braintrust of a historic offensive juggernaut. You’re portraying him as nothing more than a mere clipboard-holder. Even his worst years (the last three - one under the Great Sean Payton, if you remember) were middle-of-the-pack in the NFL.

Compared to the rest of OCs in Saints history? Come on.

This won't be complete, but it's a start

QB Heath Shuler
RB Troy Davis
RB Vaughan Dunbar
TE Can't think of his name, a disappointing free agent from yesteryear
WR Qadry Ismail (as a Saint)
WR Michael Haynes (as a Saint)
WR Lonzell Hill or Lindsay Scott
T Trevor Penning
T Wayne Gandy
G ?
G ?
C Olin Kreutz

DE Shawn Knight
DE Marcus Davenport
DT ? and ?
LB Stephone Anthony
LB Alfred Fincher
LB Kairi Fortt
several honorable mentions like Middleton and Burton from the bad old days
CB Browner and David, with several honorable mentions
S Jairus Byrd and Tebucky Jones

K Russell Erxleben
P Russell Erxleben (remember, he was a first round draft choice)

Edit: forgot about coaches
HC Mike Ditka
OC Carl Smith
DC Steve Spagnuola or Rob Ryan (can't decide)

Maybe I’m misremembering but I don’t think either Michael Haynes or Lo Hill were that bad here, and certainly not bad enough to be on a list like this.

I’d go with Lindsay Scott and Wesley Carroll.
