Loomis news conference. Most important thing he said, imo (1 Viewer)

Yes, several fans on this forum have stated numerous times that he deserves another year. The only critique is PC needs to go. My counter to that is it doesn't matter who the offensive coordinator is with DA running the show.

It's a trainwreck.
from what i have read on this forum...it is at least a 90-10 ratio of people wanting DA gone. I didn't think Saints would fire him after one season, because it was one season. As much as we would like to see it happen, the other side of that is what would other prospective coaches think about the "one & done mentality". Might not mean anything because money talks. But, will be interesting to see who actually accepts the job for the Texans because they have done that back to back seasons.

Google “touching nose when talking “ then go back and rewatch the news conference and see where he touches his nose.

There’s your real news of this press conference.

You can also tell which questions made him uncomfortable by paying attention to body language, like he was worried his answer could be sensitive.

Also confirmed DA would be back and they’re going to try to slowly manage the cap back to the middle.

But for anyone who still thinks they’re just gonna let SP walk, he was adamant that they’re gonna get the most they possibly can

Yeah. He basically said that water is wet.

Goodness you guys are dramatic. Allen may not be great, but we’ve done much worse. Be careful what you wish for.

We had two of our top paid players injured for an extended period of time (Thomas and Lattimore), and another guy in our top four who was just not good this year (Kamara). Ramczyk was the only guy in our top 4 who earned his contract this season. Then we had Andy Dalton at QB. Not many teams can survive three of their top 4 players being out/playing poorly and having a below average QB. None of that is Allen’s problem.

People also blame Allen for the offense, when he’s not even responsible for offensive play calling. He’s not the offensive coordinator.

The Saints are clearly a good defense when Lattimore isn’t hurt. They can be competitive with the defense that Allen has built, but until the offense comes around this will never be a legit contender. Winston/Dalton/Taysom…that is a wildcard playoff exit AT BEST. We have to get better at QB, and if that doesn’t happen then the HC (Allen or other) will fail. The Saints also need to definitely bring in competition for Kamara. He’s a shell of himself and he needs to be motivated. Whatever he’s doing in life, whether it’s his posse or his preparation, needs to be rethought. He was Canton bound. Now he’s not even a guy you’d want to put in your fantasy lineup. He honestly was the most disappointing player this season. If you can fix those two things…getting Kamara to be a difference maker and getting a legit QB…the Saints could have a legit chance to get to and perhaps win a playoff game. Until then we will have a lame duck coach

Mickey knows it’s a business just like Sean knows it’s a business.

Sean will not fault them for trying to get everything they can.
Maybe that is why he left with 2 years left on his contract. He wanted the Saints to be able to get back their 1st (and extra) pick for him. (Just my 2 cents)

Let’s talk about how DA’s defense preserved a 13 point lead against Tampa.

Would that have happened if Lattimore was available? You and I know the answer to that. So if you don’t stop the GOAT QB with backups…You blow as a defensive coach? Try again

I think Payton is going to gun for Belichick level franchise control. No need to bring Ireland along for that. Arizona has it set up for Payton to come in a have the whole enchilada.

I'm not so sure about that, he was terrible at the personnel game here which is why they hired Ireland in the first place....as big of an ego CSP has, he could recognize his shortcomings also....One of the main reasons he was successful the last number of years was trusting the hires of Ireland and DA and let them do their jobs....

FTR I'd rather still have Ireland and draft in the teens then not have him and draft number 3

Totally agree.....

We're writing him off because he's already failed before. This isn't a too soon situation. It was a gift wrapped playoff caliber team that he knew the ins and outs of. It lacked a franchise QB but it had 2 QB's Payton went 5-2 with and 4-1 with.

He completely mishandled the 5-2 QB to the point where I'm sure the relationship is broken despite him being a leader in the locker room. He moved the 4-1 QB to TE despite him having under 40 career catches. He goes with a backup journeyman over both and loses the season with him in one of the lowest scoring offenses in the 2nd half of the season.

His game management has been epically abysmal and cost us a playoff spot in a terrible division. He's the one that wants to go conservative on offense, not Carmichael. He's the one that wanted Dalton. We can improve on Carmichael and get a new QB but at the end of the day it's still dressing up a pig. Allen is an ultra conservative coach, it'll take a complete makeover of his coaching style for an explosive offense to be in place here because it simply doesn't mesh with the kind of team he wants.

And Saints ownership/management is just fine with bringing him back, like he earned another chance to prove he is incompetent.....and some fans agree with them....and I see the ole he is not responsible for the offense or playcalling excuse rolled out again.....that is the OC.....completely discounting/ignoring the fact that the OC is under him, that a HC is responsible for the entire team (and yes that includes the offense and the offensive coaching staff)....it is the same exact BS people used to defend Mora....it's Carl Smith it is....without asking the simple question of why Carl Smith is still here.....ridiculous.....

So what if the team Payton wants to coach is a team who's 1st round pick is in the top 10, so what happens then? It's actually not that simple. You, like several other posters here, think you've got it all figure out and you keep pushing this narrative that there's no way the Saints will land a high 1st. You don't know that.
They send a 2024 1st, not difficult really.

So the theory that Loomis has such a crush on Payton that he'd let him get out of the door for below market value is just fan fiction? Shocker.
Maybe Payton could take Allen? Going back to DC isn’t a lateral move so all good…

So…Payton should have been fired last year because the offense was even worse. I’m no Allen fan, but the Saints aren’t doing better next year. They’ll be bad. Might as well prep for 2024 when we’ll be in a much better position to require a legit replacement and not just the next guy who will fail

And the Saints have to just roll over and accept? Man, stop it
No, obviously not. They can say no, Payton stays at Fox and the Saints either get less for him in 12 months time or nothing for him in 2 years time. Which is why the Saints have very limited leverage here.
