He's almost 70, he hasn't drafted well, the cap management isn't good. In any other organization, he'd be getting pelted by much tougher questions. Loomis would crumble in 20 seconds vs NY and L.A media.
Do you really think that ML is telling the HC and the scouting dept" I don't care what you say I'm drafting Davenport or Turner or Foskey " SMH C'mon man

This press conference is going to be like Christmas for some people. No matter what he says, it's going to give several people plenty of things to pick apart, use to come to the worst possible conclusion, post in every thead, and cry about for at least another year. It's sorely needed since DA was fired and you can't use "keep doing what you are doing" as a "joke" in every thread.

Yep. It’ll be a shark feeding frenzy.

Loomis - “We need to get healthy, first of all.”

SR - “Oh great, so we are just going to keep kicking the can. Dude’s gotta go.”

I am curious if he announces any front office changes.

Yes, everybody wants to hear that ML is stepping down and putting somebody else in the formal GM role, but I’ll be listening as to whether we are shuffling people around in the front office. Firing your head coach mid season and only winning 5 games is the kind of thing that results in some people’s career trajectories changing in that room, too.

I mean, is ML above reproach here? Does he not assume some responsibility for the sorry state of the team right now? I just can't understand how folks get upset and defensive about a GM nearing 70 who has made multiple gaffs (including last year's joke of a PC), who gets and does deserve criticism....is some of it over the top? Probably yes.....is a lot of it legit criticisms? Yes also.....

The lengths people have gone to remove blame from him…to the point of saying all he does is hire a head coach every 3-16 years…..is a bit much. When the team is playing well, Loomis “made it happen”, when it doesn’t, Loomis doesn’t choose anything besides the head coach.

This franchise is where it is, by an extremely wide margin, because of Mickey Loomis. And to a certain degree Gayle for not saying that it’s time to turn the page on a great era and moving Loomis out as GM.

Did I say ML was above reproach? Did I say that he doesn't bear a large amount of responsibility for the state of the team? Did I say there wasn't a lot of legitimate criticism of him? No......

Would I personally move on from ML? Would I rather a new GM? Have I expressed criticism of ML? Do I think he waited 2 years too long to fire DA? Do I think he needs to stop trading up? Do I think ML needs to stop adding void years to contracts of old players? Do I think he needs to stop extending old players and do a better job drafting so that we aren't forced to extend older players? Yes.....

Do many posters here take it too far? Do many posters here turn it into a personal attack? Do many posters here feel the need to say that Loomis needs to be fired in every thread? Do many posters take discussion of a game too seriously and just want to be miserable about everything and look for the worst way to look at everything? Do some posters here take themselves too seriously? Do some posters here lack a sense of humor? Also, yes......

I find it interesting that so many say "we haven't drafted well."
Only Davenport was a massive mistake... & that is because we used 2 1st round picks to move up to get him.
Drafting players is always a hit or miss for all teams.. It is one of the reasons that I don't like drafting players for lower D1 or FCS players in the 1st round.
1st round draft picks especially high 1st round picks are suppose start or play a lot in their rookie season...

This is our FO's mistake...
We have teams littered with our drafter players that are playing at a very high level.
In 2019 when we extended Cam Jordan's Contract, how many of you would have been screaming from the top of you breath to fire everyone if we had let Cam Jordan go as a UFA? How many of you would have been screaming if we had let D. Davis leave as a UFA in 2020 instead of extending him...

I'm old enough to remember when we let Ricky Jackson leave as a UFA... (Actually called Plan B at the time)
Willie Roaf leave as UFA...
Sam Mills leave as a UFA...

Other than Ricky Jackson, fans weren't very happy with this outcome...
So our current FO has tried its best to keep its aging stars in-house.

Unfortunately the cost is having your ex-younger players playing at a high level for other teams & we are stuck with an salary cap problem.

It doesn’t affect your point, but Roaf was traded to KC, rather than leaving as an UFA.

This is how all professional sports franchises operate now. It's big business and they want to try to control the narrative.

The truth is that the "tough questions" are very seldom going to get answered and if they are answered they are never going to be answered truthfully or to our satisfaction. What fans really want is reporters to express their frustration and extract a pound of flesh by being an butt crevasse to the coach and GM. But that's never going to get the information we want and it's going to cut off access to the people who do have that information. If you lose credentials, you don't have the ability to talk to players, assistant coaches, staff, equipment guys, etc. who might tell you things that he head coach and GM are never going to tell you. Reporters have to have credentials to access that information and they aren't going to get the answers we want from a head coach or a GM.

Basically, reporters are doing the job the best way it can be done but people constantly birch about it.

Of course, there is nothing Loomis could possibly say that would placate this fanbase at this point other than getting up there saying he is resigning because he's a idiot and forked up while introducing Howie Roseman or Brad Holmes as the new GM and committing ritual seppuku live on camera to atone for his sins.

Well said. Not everyone remembers but Payton would often give really meaningful football insight when asked a real football question. Unfortunately that rarely happened.

Press conference will be interesting, but no conclusions can be made after today.

Mickey is on his last leg, as far as the fans are concerned and he has 1 year to put up or shut up, in my opinion. The team and organization need to be on MUCH stronger footing by this time next year. That doesn't mean we need 10+ wins and a playoff appearance, as the team may be too far down to do that in one year, but we need to see a year's worth of solid decision making and people selection at the organizational, coaching and player levels.

These are the times where GMs earn their pay. I'm highly skeptical that Mickey has the skills and demeanor to navigate this without Sean at his side, but I'm willing to give it one year more to see if he can prove me wrong.

For a 3rd round pick. :covri:

Back when we had to trade away our best players because the locker room was like a real life version of North Dallas Forty.
