why did this ^ make me think of this

From the rundown they did of cast and characters the other day, it seemed like several of the characters are completely original and that others that aren't are being adapted in ways that there's no lore basis for (Galadriel being a military commander). My hopes are not high. Tolkien left a wealth of material not just in his books but also in his appendices and letters. There's no real reason to be making stuff up for this. Especially when the glut of TV shows being produced has led to some very mediocre (or worse) writers rooms the last few years as the real talent gets spread increasingly thin.
Well, she did help lead a group of elves and establish a realm or two. She is incredibly powerful. Maybe she did more prior to having her ring.

Like Thanos being all in battle armor, until he has the gauntlet, then he has no need of armor

Roughly, this is the second age.

People are referring to the "woke" Amazon LOTR series. I don't know anything about it, or what that even means. But I'm beginning to think it might be pretty good now.

I'm going to try and watch it without a critical eye. Just enjoy the fantasy aspect and not nitpick it like I do the Star Wars series.

This is good advice for the blood pressure of us longtime fans. Just pretend it's something entirely new, with no connection to the story you love.

Wheel of Time is still trash, tho.

Pretty pumped. Growing up I read the Hibbit and Lord of the Rings books more than I could count. This new stuff is exciting.

I'm going in not expecting Tolkien, but rather a new story with loose ties to the lore. As long as it is well-written, acted and put together, I know I'm going to love it regardless of what it conveys of Tolkien's vision.

You poor bastage. You're just setting yourself up for disappointment.

I almost feel like, with the investment they are making in this, it has to be good. Don't get me wrong, sometimes studios throw money away without any kind of quality check, but this is the most expensive TV show in history by quite a bit. It would be economic malfeasance to not have the right people in place to ensure it's good.

I could be horribly wrong, but I think Amazon has too much to lose, literally, to roll out crap in this case.
