Lord of the Rings Series -- Amazon (1 Viewer)

Steven Spielberg adapting Roald Dahl on a $140 million budget made this:

So no guarantees.
Fair, but having Spielberg involved would normally be the right quality check on that kind of spend. Even Jordan missed the occasional game-winner. ;)

I almost feel like, with the investment they are making in this, it has to be good. Don't get me wrong, sometimes studios throw money away without any kind of quality check, but this is the most expensive TV show in history by quite a bit. It would be economic malfeasance to not have the right people in place to ensure it's good.

I could be horribly wrong, but I think Amazon has too much to lose, literally, to roll out crap in this case.

That was my thought a long time ago, but that first sneak peak gave me a bad feeling like -- looked and felt to CW-ish. This latest trailer looks better.

The one thing I wish the movies and this show would convey more is a sense of sadness and loss that seems to permeate the books, but with that core of hope for the future and carrying on. They lean in too much on the fantasy adventure stuff with not enough sense of Celtic mystery.

This is going to be in the 2nd age. Numeanor should be coming to power and probably hopeful and full of themselves. Elves may be downers. Dwarves head to Moria.

So, we shall see. They haven't taken enough losses yet.

The elves have lost Valinor, Fingolfin died fighting Morgoth. Gondolin has fallen.

We've had Beren and Luthien. Turin Turambar, and his forbear Hurin and Huor.

Yes, Numenor is ascendant, and Man is starting to flex his power. But it was all built on incredible heroism and sacrifice.
BTW.... I'd love to see an adaptation of Beren and Luthien.

I’m gonna have grape soda and corn nuts from the Piggly Wiggly when I watch this. Would you guys like to come over and partake in some grape soda and corn nuts whilst we watch this new LOTR series? We can play Super Mario Bros. after. My treat.

Yeah, that was my "elves may be downers" short hand. Lol.

I haven't seen the second trailer. I just assumed Numenor is a big focus.

Will your mom be there?
