Lord of the Rings Series -- Amazon (1 Viewer)

I respect Tolkien. The show disrespects him. The show is intellectually weak, artistically foul, and utterly devoid of any honest resemblance to Tolkien's work. The show intentionally avoids Tolkien. Why?

The show does not have the copyright to the same story that it is trying to tell.

That's a recipe for disrespect at best and disaster at worst. It's worse than the worst of the post-book Game of Thrones shows because at least the HBO showrunners talked to the author and could do the story legally.

The show is purely an Amazon money-grab; its pretense to use Tolkien's world is so flawed that it insults both the author and the audience.

I declare that nobody who likes this show and/or plans to watch Season Two truly appreciates Tolkien.
I'd say the fault lies with the Tolkien estate because they refuse to let anyone use his work properly. Why let anyone do anything if you are just going to limit them to 5 percent of the material? I liked the show well enough, but it's not as good as they wanted. They said anything less than the greatest show on tv is a failure. Well by that metric, they most obviously failed. Now I'm not trying to absolve them of ALL blame, but it's hard to do a good show with your hands tied behind your back.

Sometimes entertainment appeal outweighs moral principles. This show is no such temptation.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't really think it's this serious.

I could not agree with you more. I was so looking forward to this show and it's horrible.

Amazon- for…reasons- gave this show to very novice show runners
At the end of s1, there was chatter that Amazon realized they goofed
Potentially a fix was put in place
I’m curious to see if fans allow that s2 might be markedly better

I just started watching it from the beginning again. With HoTD ending and football season about to start, there aren't many shows out there so I'll just re-watch this one prepping for S3.

In defense of season 1, it started out horrible and by the end of the season, it was better than horrible.
Which part was better?

The part where they put a magic key into a volcano and it floods a whole kingdom?
The part where Galadriel and Sauron make lovey-dovey eyes at each other?
The part where Numenoreans were a bunch of weak-willed weak-minded weaklings?
The part where migrating proto-hobbits leave their old and crippled to die?
The part where Gandalf kills some fireflies?

Blech. That's the sound of Tolkien vomiting in his grave.

The part where the acting got better. I would have been insane if it had gotten worse.

Do you have a palantiri? I’m having a hard time determining how you feel about all this

Interesting, I thought the opposite. Started off good, but got worse as it progressed. I didn't have any issues with the actors or cinematography... the plot and script was just... not great
