LSU still 2 in polls (1 Viewer)

They way I see it, if LSU is as good as we all think they are they will still be either #1 or #2 at the end of the season anyway. Let USC have the #1 spot for all I care. Let them talk all the smack they want. Let them get all the media attention. Let them build themselves all up all season long just so LSU can finally put the "One-Peat" Trojans into their place. The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

After seeing LSU's defense against Va Tech, I am convinced that their isn't a team in college football that can beat us. This year's LSU defense is even better than the 2003 defense IMO. I admit I'm a LSU homer, but I can't remember ever seeing a better college defense in my life than what I saw last Saturday night against a very good Va Tech football team. If history is any indication, LSU will continue to get better and better as the year progresses, much like they did in 2003. I realize it's early in the season and a lot can happen between now and January. I also realize that USC is a very good football team and they are not to be taken lightly. But if LSU and USC matched up tomorrow I'm very confident that LSU would win.

I said before last year started that LSU had at least 10 first round picks on the roster. People called me the biggest homer ever. Told me I was insane.

If you mean on the roster, starting last year, then 10 could even be a little low. LSU already had 4 last year...Dorcey and Doucet are locks this year. That's 6 right there. Other guys like Highsmith and Johnson could work their way in this year. Tyson Jackson will be a first rounder when he declares. Heck, that leaves 2 more years worth of players. I think 10 will be achieved.

LSU will not leap past USC until USC loses. There's just too much west coast bias going on, imho.

But I don't think in the end it will matter at all whether USC loses or not during the season because I don't see this LSU team losing at all.

I believe this is the best LSU defense we've seen yet and it is much more athletic and much deeper than even the one that won the national championship.

One main difference between that defense and this one is the LSU defense this year has some very gifted athletes at LB. This defense is just so good it's just stupid. LSU is going to make a lot of good teams feel pretty terrible about themselves when they are done with them throughout the season.

And I feel really sorry for any team that plays LSU in the Sugar Bowl for the national championship. Ouch...

Man I'm worried about all the love that LSU is getting right now, both locally and nationally- I've rarely, if ever, seen a more universally praised LSU team. Miles, IMO, has a monumental task on his plate right now of preventing a group of 18-22 year olds from buying into the hype and falling in love with themselves... That presents more of a problem with this LSU team than any opponent ever could...

I have to agree with you, LSU is the only thing standing in the way of a title shot. It's a long season with plenty of chances for an upset if they are not focused.

You know, I love my Tigers to death but if somehow we don't win the national championship this year, I'm not going to beat myself up for it or call for Miles' head. I'm not an LSU fan because they're good. I'm an LSU fan because that is the state school of Louisiana and I love this state. The fact that they have been, IMO, the most talented team of the decade is a bonus for me. Fact still remains that every week LSU fields a team that plays full throttle and can compete with and beat any team in the nation. Yes, with our talent we should be winning national championships like crazy, but to call seasons a waste or bad for losing one or even two games is absurd when we are placing players in the NFL every single year and have the best program and fans in the nation. And yes even though our fans are very ill tempered and expect a lot from our coaches and team, they still are the best fans in the country

I would say that last years team had more talent.

Well last year we had Russell so I'd have a hard time arguing with you for that reason only. But from top to bottom I don't think last years team has the talent as our current roster. We had a few players last year that I loved but I was happy that they finally moved on. Vincent, Broussard, and Pittman. Pittman was adequate at stopping the run but wasn't a good pass rusher and hardly ever made any plays. Vincent just messed himself up by not staying in shape after his freshmen season. I mean he was a beast that year and then turned to crap. Broussard I really feel so sorry for. He was IMO the most physically complete running back that LSU has ever had. At 240 pounds he was running in the 4.3 range and was even faster than Joseph Addai was when he was at LSU. With that kind of size and speed he would have been the first RB taken if it wasn't for that injury. He still has a chance to be drafted and make an NFL roster as backup but he is never going to be as good as he was

I think you are forgetting about Landry who I consider a much better player than Russell.

I'll tell you the two players who don't get enough credit for the great job they do, Jonathan Zenon and Chevis Jackson. These two are lockdown corners and allow our safeties to play closer to the line and blitz on 3rd downs and they are a huge part of why our defense is so good. I hope the Saints grab one of them in the next draft

Absolutely they have played great as well. I was never worried about the D, the only thing I had a concern for was the experience at WR behind Doucet and how well Flynn would step in and perform/how much time would he need to get comfortable, and those question looked answered thus far.

I wasn't worried about the recievers. We've been loading up on them for years now and we finally get to see all that talent with our new offense which I absolutely love. Flynn was the only one I was worried about but I can see is the real deal. Tremendous leader with great awareness, quick release, and great scrambling ability. I think he is going to win it all for us.

And next season, don't even get me started. Next years team is going to rewrite what a dominate offense is.

Yea Flynn's got talent, he wasn't no slouch, he was the 16th ranked QB(Russell was the 6th) according to rivals...

Also in that class, Quinn(10) Leak(2),Booty(NR), M. Ryan, BC(25), Sam Keller(9), Woodson(7)

Kyle Wright was the number 1 QB and it's safe to say he didn't live up to that spot.
