Measles outbreak tracker

Peer review is absolutely not without its flaws. The amount of bias that saturates the process has caused serious issues in certain fields and outright failed in the case of the Amyloid Hypothesis that incorrectly guided Alzheimer's research for 16 years. During that period, it was the most frequently cited paper on the subject. Reviewers missed obvious red flags and played gatekeeper to those with challenging ideas. There's dirty pool involved in the peer review process at times, and it should not be considered sacrosanct. It's an invaluable tool, but it's not an infallible one.
Cha-ching.

I'm all for science ... until the scientists start blatantly lying. Then I have to decide which scientist is lying to me and which one isn't. Perfect breeding ground for conspiracy theories when we didn't really need anymore compost. Science and medicine aren't black and white.
but believing "lying" scientists isn't the main issue. it's believing a scientist over some dude on a podcast or on YouTube who has zero medical/scientific background, or even research capabilities.. or the doctor who thinks demons who sneak into the bedrooms and has sex with us while we sleep.. sorry if i don't take them seriously..
sorry if i don't think 99% of scientists and doctors are lying and are part of some big cover up at do whatever new world order thing..
no amount of YouTubers or Joe Rogan-ish podcasts are gonna make me believe the junk ..
but when the scientists are "lying" because the above who know zero to begin with say so.. that says a lot about a person..

It isn't infallible, but it's the best we have. Look where we are now compared to just 10 years ago, or 20, or 50.

And it is certainly better than Facebook chats exalting the benefits of drinking a teaspoon of Drano to cure cancer, and a bunch of idiots agreeing.
Indeed.

My restaurant caters many drug deals. The type of drug deals that incentivized my mom getting prescribed fentanyl patches for 10 years of her life to the point she was in a haze the entire time and it literally takes 3 years to ween her off of the meds. Forgive my blind faith in the pharmaceutical industry. Cha-ching.

so you advise no medication at all?
pharmaceutical companies are responsible for must of the opioid problems in this country. but that doesn't mean I'd rather die from a disease or virus in spite of it..

No, but don't act as if people that have concerns about the motivations of pharma are listening to cooky people on the internet.

Having concerns is perfectly fine. In fact, most here are well aware of the issues in the pharmaceutical space.

That said, there are definitely a lot of unreliable and outright false information out there about the value to society of important medical advances over the years. And there's no magic bullet that works for every single person.

What should be happening is individuals should consult with their doctors (hopefully a good one, they aren't all created equal) and make informed decisions about their own health.

I have a brother in law living in Taiwan and was talking to me about how different healthcare is there compared to here. One of the biggest differences is there, the focus is much more geared towards preventative care than waiting to get sick to see a doctor. They do checkups several times a year and he said it's so much more efficient and they do more testing for diseases and conditions than we do here.

We definitely have a health care problem in the US and need a greater effort in preventative care imo.

there isn't a person in this country who doesn't think big pharma is a problem. but big pharm doesn't bully other countries like thay do ours. all you have to do is look at the price of medication in other countries. no one calls people that have concerns about pharma cooky.. the ones who are cooky are the ones who just ignore the mounds and mounds of science in lieu of a podcaster..

Dental insurance in many instances does not even fully cover semi-annual checkups, leading those in tight financial straits to skip checkups and cleanings until they have an abscess and then care become emergent, which is likely covered but costs much more than semi-annual cleanings.

**** on the US healthcare system, we know what the goal is...

Skepticism regarding big pharma is well-deserved. This is an industry that, along with its piece of work lobbyists and legislative lackeys, created a whole generation of opioid addicts costing billions of dollars and countless lives.

Btw, opioids don't really control pain, they just make you THINK they do. If you have no underlying health issues, you're better off alternating OTC generic NSAIDS like acetaminophen and ibuprofen. You wont' become addicted physically and you'll get actual control of the inflammation.

Just one example. The same is true of statins and SSRI's. SSRI's don't work well at all and in many cases the side effects are worse then the disease symptoms. Ask me how I know.

Well,no shirt. It has been known for ages too much vitamin A is toxic to the body. I guarantee these fools
are taking a lot more than the RDA. Kennedy needs to be impeached.

And you shouldn't act like people thinking that childhood vaccinations that safely eliminated diseases such as measles for decades, only for them to come back when people refuse to give their kids those vaccinations based on junk "science", are saying that pharma companies have clean hands and don't do evil things.

Obviously big pharma do evil things in the name of profits all the time, but that doesn't change the fact that they also make some really effective and safe medicines and vaccines. And not everyone that has issues with big pharma is taking Ivermectin for COVID or injecting bleach, but they do often use the evils of big pharma to draw unwarranted conclusions about vaccines.

And, a lot of the opioid issues in this country are rooted in pain management clinics that dispensed opioids like candy for many years. In part to fund the personal injury industry.
